    Toyota Prius Car Guide

    Toyota PriusOverview

As with many of Toyota's vehicles, the Prius has become a standard-bearer in its segment. While many automakers' hybrid models are still in their beginning stages, Toyota's Prius is already well into its fourth generation. This four-door hatchback hybrid has become a hit with consumers because of its stellar fuel economy, spacious cabin, relatively uncompromised driving characteristics and reasonable price. Discover the ins and outs on used Toyota Priuses, available now in Carvana's inventory.

    NOTEWORTHY FEATURES

Ample Space For Rear Seat Passengers

On the hoof, the Prius doesn't necessarily look like a model for versatility, but when you take a closer look, there's really more than meets the eye. Despite its compact appearance, the Prius actually offers a good amount of space for passengers, particularly in the rear. This makes the Prius a legitimate road trip companion if you plan on hitting the nation's highways and byways with a group of friends or family.

    Superior Fuel Economy

Ever since the Prius went into production several years ago, its calling card has been its tremendous fuel economy. How good? EPA estimates have the Prius returning a jaw-dropping 50 mpg combined (51 mpg city/48 mpg highway), making it one of the most fuel efficient hybrids on the market.

    Spacious Cargo Area

Not only does the Prius excel as a people hauler when pushed into action, but also has enough cargo space to comfortably accommodate its passengers. Behind the rear seats, the Prius offers 21.6 cubic feet of storage area, good enough to fit about five bags of gold clubs. With the rear seat folded down, that space extends to 39.6 cubic feet.

    ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS

    Road Noise

For all of the Prius' virtues, one notable complaint that has been voiced is that of excessive road noise. Though easy to drive around town, the Prius does a poor job of muting road and wind noise, regardless of the speed you're traveling at. This is compounded by the fact that the Prius' small gasoline engine also emits noise under hard acceleration.

    Acceleration

While it should be adequate for most buyers, the Prius offers lackluster acceleration that doesn't really contribute in a meaningful way for the person behind the wheel. In Edmunds performance testing, the Prius accelerated from 0 to 60 in 10.1 seconds, which is slower than a number of other hybrid sedans.

    Interior Materials

The Prius is a true economy vehicle, which means that comforts you might otherwise find in more expensive hybrid sedans are absent from this vehicle. This is particularly true as it pertains to the Prius' cabin area, which features harder and cheaper plastics compared to other cars in its price range.
