Jeep Renegade Guide

The Renegade may be all Jeep, but it's in a class by itself. While the Cherokee's styling is rather refined and the Patriot and Compass are traditional, the Renegade has a classic yet modern personality. Subcompact crossovers like the 2019 Renegade are some of the most popular entries in the American automotive market. With a powerful engine and range of safety features, this SUV appeals to many types of drivers.
A Strong EngineThe 2019 Renegade gets its power from a standard 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine that offers 177 horsepower and 200 pound-feet of torque. A nine-speed automatic transmission is the standard, but it's a good option. It maximizes the Renegade's size and offers an energetic feel that will likely please most drivers.
Plenty of Space InsideThe Renegade is wider on the inside than some of its competitors. The increased width makes it feel wider than it really is, especially up front, where the padded seats are quite comfortable. Those seats are divided by a roomy console with plenty of storage area; there's also a locking bin and two cup holders. You'll have your choice of a 7-inch or an 8.4-inch touch screen, which is mounted in the center stack. As refined as the 2019 Renegade is, it's the type of vehicle you wouldn't be reluctant to get dirty.
Safety and Peace of MindAll 2019 Renegades come with stability control and a full complement of airbags, and most also have rearview cameras. As far as options are concerned, you'll find a front-crash notification system and auto braking, lane correction and departure warning, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. With large, rectangular mirrors, you'll get an excellent rearward view.
A Basic Feature ListThe Renegade is Jeep's entry-level vehicle, but it doesn't always feel that way. Though most Renegades are well-equipped, the bottom-tier Sport doesn't get cruise control or air conditioning. For features such as leather upholstery, you'll have to find a higher trim level.
Limited Transmission OptionsFor the 2019 model year, Jeep has done away with the manual transmission once used in the Renegade. This year's model only offers automatic transmission. While this may not be a problem for drivers who don't want to drive a stick, it could disappoint some performance and off-road enthusiasts.
Lack of Space in the BackIf there's one area where the Renegade falls short, it's in rear-seating comfort and legroom. Both of the 2019 Renegade's front seating areas offer ample headroom, and you'll enjoy a great view of the road thanks to the driver's seating position. Unfortunately, the back row's legroom isn't nearly as plentiful, and your tallest passengers may feel a touch cramped. That's common for small crossovers, however.
