Overview2015 TOYOTA RAV4

The 2015 Toyota RAV4 is a versatile SUV that's easy to park, offers good fuel economy and just enough cargo room. A long-time favorite among car buyers, the RAV4 is available with safety gear like traction control, a rear-view camera and blind-spot monitoring. When the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety tested the RAV4, it gave the vehicle a score of "Good" for protecting occupants. The small SUV is fun to drive, and it has a reasonable amount of off-road capability.

Spacious Interior

Toyota gave the RAV4 a quality interior, one featuring nice materials and soft-touch surfaces that make the cabin welcoming and inviting. The driver's seat is supportive and comfortable, and if you get the Limited model, you'll enjoy additional lumbar support. There's plenty of space for rear-seat passengers with a good amount of legroom.

Good Handling

Once you get behind the wheel, you'll notice that the SUV delivers a smooth ride and handles extremely well, especially when you consider the vehicle's ride height that includes 6.3 inches of ground clearance. The RAV4's electric power steering is sensitive, which means that it doesn't feel detached or numb. Along with this, the vehicle's suspension absorbs most road bumps without making the ride feel out of control when you increase the acceleration.

Helpful Rear-View Assist

With SUV design and safety resulting in thicker pillars, it's getting harder to see out of the back of vehicles these days. To offset this, Toyota equipped the RAV4 with a backup camera that comes standard. You can also purchase the vehicle with safety gear like blind-spot detection that includes rear cross-traffic alert, a system that sends an alert when other vehicles are behind you as you're reversing.

Only One Engine Option

One downside to Toyota's 2015 RAV4 is that it is available with just one engine, which is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder version that generates 176 horsepower and 172 pound-feet of torque. Paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, the vehicle was able to reach a speed of 60 mph from zero in 9.2 seconds when tested. This is not bad but just average for an SUV crossover of this size.

Cumbersome Technology

When it comes to technology, Toyota uses Entune. This system is added to every RAV4, but only the upper trim levels offer the system with Entune's selection of smartphone-connected services. While there's a ton of convenience that comes with this system, it can be a bother since you must install an app on your smartphone and register for an account while making sure that you have an active data connection to use it.

Losing Ground to the Competition

The 2015 Toyota RAV4 offers plenty of value, but it is starting to lose ground to the competition. Small SUVs with more powerful engines and nicer interiors are available. However, when it comes to covering all the bases, the RAV4 continues to do so for most small SUV buyers.
