Overview2015 NISSAN LEAF

The Nissan Leaf is one of the pioneers in the electric car field, offering drivers one of the first vehicles of this type. NOTEWORTHY FEATURES

Extended Electric Range

Nissan continues to invest in improving the electric range of the Leaf. Now, the Leaf can travel up to 150 miles on a single charge. Nissan now has new Leaf Plus models on the market that take the range past 200 miles. The current range is more than enough to get you through your daily commute and also longer trips.

Lower Price

The Leaf remains one of the lower-priced cars in the all-electric space as its base price comes in well below its competitors. Newer models of the car can be over $10,000 less than the Tesla 3 or the Chevy Bolt, and the Leaf is substantially equivalent to these competitors. This can bring an electric car into the range of affordability for many households.

Engine Power

The Leaf has gotten more powerful as Nissan has developed the car, and the engine is now up to 147 horsepower. Newer versions of the Leaf can go from 0-60 in under eight seconds. Even older Leafs can reach 60 miles per hour in around 10 seconds, which is not any worse than average for a five-door hatchback.

ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS

Driver Comfort

The interior of the car is not designed in a manner that allows drivers to get comfortable easily. The seat is not aligned with the steering wheel in the most efficient way, making the position of the wheel difficult for some drivers to grasp. In addition, taller drivers may not be able to maneuver their seat in order to achieve an optimal level of comfort.

Handling

Drivers have reported that the Leaf feels stiff at times, and some have complained about mechanical handling. The car handles well enough, but it lacks the panache that you would expect from an electric car. While the car does not give much resistance when it comes to steering and generally goes where it is told, the car does not handle as well as other vehicles in its class.

Interior Cabin

The Leaf's interior cabin does not contain uniformly high-grade materials. Some of the cabin materials are hard plastic, which affects both the appearance and comfort of the car. In addition, while the car is advertised as a five-seater, the middle seat in the back does not have adequate foot room to seat an adult.
