Our whole process started over a month ago when one Friday after work we stopped by a traditional car dealership. We were so turned off by the gimmicks, false promises, etc. that we left and told them we would be in touch. Luckily, there are billboards all over our city advertising Carvana so I decided to look.
We found the most perfect 2016 Kia Optima with low mileage and an even better price! We loved how the car buying tool shows where potential damage may be, how easy it was for us to get in contact with Carvana and that all the state government taxes and fees are part of the purchase price. We bought our car the next day.
Luckily, we decided to opt in for a much later delivery. Good thing we did! Since carvana is so new, our loan office was not familiar with their process. So about a week of back and forth, Carvana not returning the loan offices calls, decided who was going to take who's paperwork, everything was finally finalized.
Finally, we were approaching delivery day! Carvana actually called a day early saying the car was ready and if we were available, they could deliver in an hour. We rushed home and within the hour, the delivery driver was ringing our door bell!
The delivery was much more awkward than I had anticipated. We looked around the car, pointing out some dings and paint chips that originally weren't listed with a response of "oh, some paint will fix that, it's a nice car though!" Strike one. We asked if we could test drive, he said of course so we took it out. When we got back, we said it drove great but noticed that one of the vents wouldn't stay open. He said "take it to the dealership" Strike two. Finally, we told him there is a chip in the windshield and he said "it looks like it's alrwsdy been filled, I guess you could take it in" Strike three. We did keeep the car because the engine and the bones of it are great. However, I think their customer service, especially on delivery day, leaves a lot to be desired. I know a used car is not going to be perfect but I should not have all the actions to go about the solutions to fixing them. That would be a benefit of buying from a reliable dealership.
With the car, we are happy minus the few fixes. Customer service needs to continue to improve and carvana would then have a flawless service that could really take off.
