Overview2015 BUICK ENCORE

The 2015 Buick Encore is a compact crossover that comes in front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Buick is selling its small SUV in four different trim levels, offering you the opportunity to get the amenities that you prefer. While driving it, you'll notice that it features a quiet cabin and easy-to-use technology. This is one of the most compact SUVs that you can buy, which makes it perfect for city parking and traveling through crowded streets. Buick is offering high-end features with the Encore, such as leather upholstery and a Bose stereo, turning the vehicle into a premium crossover option.

NOTEWORTHY FEATURES

Small But Packs a Big Punch

The Buick Encore is 11 inches shorter than Honda's CR-V, making it a size smaller than most compact crossovers. However, with safety advancements like a lane-departure warning system, forward collision and a blind-spot warning system, the Encore packs a sizable punch. Since this is a Buick, you can get comfort features with your Encore, amenities like heated front seats, a heated steering wheel and power lumbar support.

Great Fuel Economy

Buick decided to power the Encore with a turbocharged, 1.4-liter, inline, four-cylinder engine, one that emits 138 horsepower and 149 pound-feet of torque. Paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, front-wheel drive models get 25 miles per gallon in the city and 33 miles per gallon at highway speeds while all-wheel drive versions come in at 23 miles per gallon for city jaunts and 30 miles per gallon during road trips.

Plenty of Tech Equipment

Encore owners will have access to advanced technology with their 2015 crossover. OnStar with a Wi-Fi hotspot and 4G LTE connectivity is one standard tech feature of the vehicle. You'll also have Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity along with a seven-inch touchscreen, a USB port and an auxiliary input jack.

ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS

Could Use More Power

While the four-cylinder engine does a great job of delivering good fuel economy, it's not able to give the crossover as much acceleration as some of the vehicle's rivals. It does okay when there's just one or two people in the car, but you'll notice a decrease in zip when there's more than that. Models with all-wheel drive have less pickup power as well.

Lack of Space

When you step into a 2015 Encore for a test drive, the lack of space will be apparent. The backseat is a bit tight when there's two six-foot adults settled inside. Also, the cargo area is on the small side with 18.8 cubic feet of space. This is larger than competitors like the Juke and the Countryman, but vehicles like the Ford Escape have more than twice the space of the Encore.

Visibility Issues

The Encore's rear window is on the narrow side, and this can obstruct visibility. However, a rear backup camera comes standard on the vehicle, making it safer for you to backup.
