Overview2016 ACURA ILX
The 2016 Acura ILX delivers the premium features of a large or European car from a trusted, quality brand without the price normally associated with small luxury-status sedans. For 2016, Acura added to the ILX a bevy of improvements, including an eight-speed automatic transmission and a 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine in all models. Acura also upgraded the chassis for greater stiffness and the steering for greater accuracy, redesigned the nose and tail and made a host of new driver assist technologies standard. The 2016 Acura ILX comes in six different trims: base, AcuraWatch Plus, Premium, A-Spec, Premium and A-Spec combined, and Technology Plus.
Improved Driving ExperienceWith this second iteration of the ILX, Acura improved the driving experience greatly, adding a better drivetrain and the new dual-clutch transmission, improving body construction and suspension to better keep out noise and vibration. This upgrade also has several useful driver aids, like shifting paddles mounted to the steering wheel. A built-in torque converter provides an extra power boost and improves general performance. Switch between Drive mode and Sports mode for two different, but equally efficient, driving experiences. Regardless of which model you choose, Acura has enabled some form of navigation, either through smartphone integration or the upgraded navigation suite, also helping to make driving the ILX easy as can be.
Great MileageThe 2016 Acura ILX is impressively fuel-efficient for a luxury sedan, getting up to 25 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway.
Pocketbook-FriendlySo often you hear of cost as one of the "additional considerations" you have to contend with in order to get the type of vehicle you want. With the Acura ILX, it's the opposite. Here, you can get Acura's best in a small luxury sedan for closer to the cost of an economy car.
Not Improved That MuchWhile Acura definitely went a long way to improve the driving experience in the 2016 ILX, it still has a little ways to go. The engine could be more powerful still, making for acceleration that leaves something to be desired, the road and engine noise could be quieter and the ride itself could be smoother.
Luxury, Not LuxuryFor some people, the luxury of the Acura may be overdoing itthat is, if you want the premium features of the ILX without all the plushness and styling or you simply want these features in a larger vehicle, you can certainly find it in more mainstream economy alternatives. What's more, if you compare the interior materials, seating and space in the 2016 ILX to those of other luxury sedans, you'll see they're not so luxurious after all. There's still some hard plastics, and even the other materials you'll come into regular contact with in the vehicle don't feel as quality and well-made as it seems they should.
Basic TechThe infotainment screen in the center console isn't as user-friendly or graphically appealing as today's technology (or even 2016's technology) allows. Functionality is also subpar compared to other cars in its class.
