The small sport coupe is a small niche in the U.S. car market, but for shoppers who want nimble handling, peppy performance and good looks in a small package -- and can't abide the thought of four doors -- the FR-S remains one of the best choices available. It's a back-to-basics, lightweight sports car with rear-wheel drive, excellent balance and an affordable price. Discover the ins and outs on used Scion FR-Ss, available now in Carvana's inventory.
Though sleek styling and a reputation as a performance vehicle doesn't necessarily belie cost savings at the pump, the Scion FR-S is the exception to this rule. While the six-speed manual version of the FR-S claims a respectable EPA estimate of 25 mpg combined (22 mpg city/30 mpg highway), the automatic is where the FR-S really turns heads with regard to fuel efficiency, boasting a remarkable 28 mpg combined (25 mpg city/34 mpg highway).
Light and nimble, the FR-S is a truly fun vehicle to take for a spin. Its relatively airy and well-balanced chassis make it a particularly agile vehicle that does well navigating twists and turns on the road. Says Edmunds, The FR-S defines what sports car driving is all about.
Not known for being a luxurious vehicle, the FR-S still offers a comfortable driving experience for passengers in the front. The firm support is best if you're out and about doing some hard driving, although the seats remain comfortable if you're on a lengthy road trip. Drivers of all sizes can find a comfortable driving position in the FR-S.
Even though it's a vehicle known for performance, the FR-S isn't necessary a vehicle with blistering speed and acceleration. In fact, with its small and moderately powered engine, the FR-S accelerates no better than that of a modern V6 family sedan.
Truth be told, the legroom in the backseat of an FR-S is rather sparse. Furthermore, headroom comes at a premium as well, as the head of any moderately sized rear passenger will come very close to brushing up against the rear window.
Not only is space for rear passengers scarce, but the cargo capacity in the FR-S offers very little in the way of storage. With 6.9 feet of cubic space available, FR-S's trunk is big enough to store a bag of golf clubs and little else. However, the rear seats do fold down, providing FR-S owners with a little extra room for storage if need be.
