Realizing that most SUV buyers rarely, if ever, venture off-road, the BMW X5 was designed for on-road performance and handling. It was BMW's first foray into the luxury SUV market, and its success compelled virtually all of its rivals to follow suit in the decades that followed. Discover the ins and out on used BMW X5s, available now in Carvana’s inventory.
Excellent Marks For HandlingThe BMW X5 is arguably one of the best handling midsize luxury crossovers on the market. No matter whether you’re winding your way through the country, or hopping on the freeway as part of your next road trip, the X5 offers remarkable security and stability while also providing driving enjoyment. Road and wind noise are hushed as well, making the X5 the ideal travel companion.
Efficient, Powerful Engine OptionsThe rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive BMW sDrive35i and xDrive35i models come with a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine, as does the xDrive35d, which is diesel-powered. The rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive models average between 21-22 mpg combined, while the diesel-powered xDrive35i gets a very respectable 26 mpg combined. If you’re looking for a little extra power, the X5 also comes in a 4.4-liter V8, but it comes at a cost, as this version only gets 17 mpg combined.
Luxurious, Comfortable InteriorAs you might expect, the interior layout on the X5 is upscale with quality construction and elegant appointments. If you choose models with the upgraded and extended leather options, you won’t be disappointed. The front seats are appropriately shaped and can be adjusted to fit a wide range of body types.
Expensive Price TagEven amongst other midsize luxury crossovers, X5 resides on the pricier end of the spectrum. If you’re looking to avoid paying top dollar for the X5, there are a handful of options in its class that would likely satisfy your taste.
UtilityThough comfortable, the second-row legroom in the X5 is only adequate considering the vehicle’s luxury billing. Furthermore, the optional third row seating offers even more cramped quarters, even for small children.
Average Storage CapacityWhen you think of a midsize crossover, in your mind, you’re thinking of a relatively large vehicle that is equal parts easy to drive and maneuver, but also accommodating in terms of the space it provides. The X5 has many of these qualities, but one area where it’s just so-so compared to competitors is cargo space. With both rows folded down, available cargo space measures 66 cubic feet; an average number for the segment.
