    Mazda Miata Car Guide

    MAZDA MIATAOverview

The Miata has been the cornerstone of Mazda's lineup of vehicles for nearly three decades. Introduced in 1991, the Miata was a budget sports car for those who wanted the power of a luxury roadster. This sports car has seen several redesigns over the years. Today, the Miata is still the small, nimble, and fun roadster that many drivers have come to love. The newest Miata includes an improved four-cylinder engine with 181 horsepower and six-speed manual transmission that provides a smooth and exciting ride with advanced safety features.

    NOTEWORTHY FEATURES

    Improved Handling

Mazda has improved the steering of the Miata with a switch from hydraulic to electric-assist steering. The wheel has a more on-center feel as it decreases the twitchiness from previous generations. This style of handling gives the 2019 Miata a more solid feel on the road, and it allows you to lean into the turns effortlessly.

    Exciting Trim Options

The 2019 Miata comes in three trim levels: Sport, Club, and Grand Touring. Its Club trim has a few upgraded performance features from the Sport, including a limited-slip differential, sport suspension, and 17-inch wheels. All the trim levels have the option of choosing between a six-speed manual or an automatic transmission. Miata drivers also have a choice between hard-top and soft-top models.

    Smooth Acceleration

With the easy-to-shift manual transmission, the Miata offers a sporty ride on the road. Powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, the Miata completed a Car and Driver performance test in zero to 60 mph in just 5.7 seconds. Even with the automatic transmission, the Miata still delivers as a fun rear-wheel-drive sports car.

    ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS

    Cabin Space

Performance on the road remains the top priority for the Miata, but the cabin features an elegant design. However, space is at a premium in the roadster, and some comforts are missing. For taller drivers, there may be a struggle to find enough space behind the wheel. The more economical interior also leads to a louder ride inside, which may be a turn off for drivers accustomed to quieter modern cars.

    Limited Cargo Area

With the focus on the driving experience, there is not much room in the cargo area just 4.6 cubic feet of space. The Miata only offers enough room for a few belongings. Furthermore, the Miata does not have a glovebox or rear seat. Some might say this car touts more fun than practicality.

    Infotainment Options

The Miata balances a smooth driving experience with modern connectivity. These cars feature blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rearview cameras. The USB connection provides easy smartphone integration with Bluetooth capabilities for streaming audio and media. However, tech-savvy drivers may be disappointed with the lack of Android Auto or Apple CarPlay connections.
