    Kia Niro Car Guide

    KIA NIROOverview

The Kia Niro is a crossover SUV that comes in hybrid, fully electric, and plug-in hybrid options. The car has been on the market since 2017 and has become one of the class leaders when it comes to range and fuel efficiency. The Kia Niro comes in five different trims, and there are several options for the plug-in and electric versions as well.

    NOTEWORTHY FEATURES

    Range and Fuel Efficiency

As an electric car, the Kia Niro has a range of 239 miles when it is fully charged, cutting back on your costs to operate the car. The hybrid version is one of the most fuel-efficient vehicles on the market, getting over 50 miles per gallon and putting it in rarefied class. The electric version charges quickly, recharging nearly its entire battery in about 75 minutes. However, the plug-in hybrid has a lower electric range of only 26 miles.

    Interior and Cargo Room

The interior is roomier than most cars in the Niro's class. Five people can fit comfortably in the vehicle, and there is more room in the back seat than there is in other hybrid hatchbacks. While the cargo hold is generally on the smaller side, when the back seats are folded, the cargo hold has even more storage.

    Engine Power

For a hatchback, the Kia Niro packs a surprising punch. The Kia Niro has quicker acceleration than other cars in its class. The Niro can get from zero to 60 miles per hour in 8.6 seconds, which is slightly faster than the Prius. The Niro has a four-cylinder engine that puts out 139 horsepower. The electric version comes with an even more powerful engine that features 201 horsepower.

    ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS

    Highway Driving

The Kia Niro hybrid is not as fuel efficient on the highway as it is in the city. When it drives at highway speeds, the Niro gets between 39 and 42 miles per gallon, which is slightly less than other hybrid cars. However, the fuel efficiency does increase at lower speeds. The Touring version of the Niro loses some of the benefits of the model when it comes to fuel efficiency and is no better than the industry average.

    Handling

The Kia Niro includes a dual-clutch transmission that has had mixed results. The transmission shifts smoothly. However, while the transmission shifts quickly, the transition between gears can stand to be smoother because the Niro will hesitate slightly during the change. The Niro EV comes with a single-speed transmission that does not experience these issues.

    All-Wheel Drive

Those who require their SUVs to have all-wheel drive will be disappointed as this is not available on the Kia Niro. The car only offers front-wheel drive, which makes it a little less versatile if you are driving in a harsher winter environment. The lack of all-wheel drive also makes the car less sporty or athletic than others in its class.
