The 2020 Cadillac Escalade is more refined, capable, and luxurious than almost anything else on the road. It successfully bridges the gap between taste and excess, and its unmistakable style can be seen from all angles. Though it shares a structure, frame, and running gear with the Yukon, the Suburban, and the Tahoe, the Escalade takes things up a few notches.

On the inside, the 2020 Cadillac Escalade shows its departure from the mainstream. Hand-pieced leather upholstery fills the cabin, with authentic suede tucked neatly into real wood trim. The front seats are cooled and heated, but the real centerpiece of the cockpit is the CUE infotainment touch screen. It can be activated by capacitive touch, swipe gestures, or your voice. You'll face an expansive 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster that can be configured to suit your tastes, and an optional heads-up display projects important info onto the windshield.

The 2020 Cadillac Escalade gets its power from a 6.2-liter V-8 engine. Rated at 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, it is a perfect match for the 10-speed auto transmission. The Escalade can go from zero to 60 in just about six seconds, which is no small feat for a vehicle that weighs approximately 5,500 pounds when well-optioned.

Safety Tech

The Escalade has a long list of standard and optional safety gear. You'll get a front/center air bag that protects front-row occupants in the event of a side collision. Luxury models come with standard auto emergency braking while the available Driver Awareness feature suite brings a lane-departure warning system that pulls the outsize SUV back into its lane. You'll also get auto high beam headlights.

If you're looking for subtlety, you won't find it in the 2020 Cadillac Escalade. This SUV is grand and overstated in every way, and it draws the eye wherever it goes. Although it has become quite popular in the last 20 years, it's not the best choice if you're trying to be incognito.

Cargo Loading Height and Seating

The Escalade is tough to beat as far as the cargo area is concerned. However, the cargo area's load floor height may make loading and unloading difficult for some. Each of the three rows is spacious, but the heated buckets in the second row may feel narrow to larger passengers. The third row easily stows and redeploys with a button press, but you'll have to raise the second row by hand.

Off-Road Ability

The 2020 Escalade's power steering assist is well-proportioned. The wheel feels nice and heavy, but it lightens up at reduced speeds. With optional 4WD, it becomes quite competent in various driving conditions. However, the Cadillac's size prevents it from going places where smaller SUVs can reach.
