NOTEWORTHY FEATURES

Stature

The BMW 7 Series improves its design from year to year, but remains consistent with its intriguing grilles, sleek bumpers and up to date LED headlights. There is consistency in its body style ranging from the 2015 7 Series to the 2020 7 Series. Additionally, the imposing presence is recognized upon approach, and the length of the luxury sedan gives it a limousine look. Its ground variance is well balanced from year-to-year, allowing occupants to enter and exit with grace and elegance, based on the average size adult.

Engine and Performance

The 2013 BMW 740 offers a standard a 3-liter turbocharged inline-6 that produces 315 horsepower and 330 pound-feet of torque. The 2017 740e xDrive provides a turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The four-cylinder engine has an electric motor that is supported by a lithium-ion battery. In 2018, the BMW M760i xDrive harnessed an impressive 6.6-liter turbocharged V12 engine. The mammoth of an engine produces 601 horsepower and offers a plug-in hybrid and a V12 but only in the AWD option.

Technology

The 2014 BMW 740 model has technology that includes BMW Assist emergency communications, BMW Apps smartphone integration, HD radio, satellite radio, and 20 GB of digital music storage. There is also Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, a navigation system and a 12-speaker sound system with a CD player that is all embedded within the 2014 740 sedan. The 2020 lineup of 7 Series optional technology includes the Autobahn Package, the Luxury Rear Seating Package, and the Rear Executive Lounge Seating Package.

ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS

Wheelbase

The 2016 BMW 7 Series may not have the regular wheelbase that past models sustained. The wheelbase is the distance between the centers of the front and rear wheels. Therefore, the balance and steering may not meet expectations, which may result in a lack of control.

Cargo Space

Earlier models may pose a limited amount of trunk space. The 2014 BMW 7 Series is noted to lack the volume of cargo space than some would anticipate. In the 2014 Series, trunk space measured at 14 cubic feet, which is surprisingly low for a sedan of this size.

Cost of Options

According to Edmunds, some optional packages are deemed expensive. For example, the 2018 BMW 7 Series lineup offers upgrades that may be a little pricey compared to what its rivals offer. The 7 Series remains a leader in its class with its various options of engine power.
