About the 2021 Ram 2500

5th-generation Ram Heavy Duty (2019-2024), third model year before the major 2025 update.

Ram positions the 2500 as a heavy-duty pickup that does serious towing and hauling without feeling stripped down or crude. The brand leans hard on its mix of capability, interior quality, ride comfort, and towing technology, especially the Ram 2500’s coil-spring rear suspension and upscale cabin options. In this class, its main differentiator is that it can serve as a true work truck, a family tow vehicle, or a luxury truck without giving up its heavy-duty mission.

The 2021 Ram 2500 ranges from the straightforward Tradesman work truck to the upscale Limited, which has a 12-inch touchscreen, premium leather and wood trim, and power running boards. The Power Wagon is the off-road specialist, with locking front and rear differentials, a disconnecting front stabilizer bar, underbody protection, and a built-in winch. Laramie and Limited Longhorn models emphasize comfort with leather seating, heated seats, and upgraded cabin materials.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 2021 Ram 2500 a redesign?

No. The 2021 Ram 2500 carries over the fifth-generation design introduced for 2019, with a few appearance-package and technology updates rather than major structural changes.

What is the main change to the 2021 Ram 2500?

The main change is the new Limited Night Edition appearance package. A digital rearview mirror and a Power Wagon 75th Anniversary Edition package are the other notable updates.

What changed on the 2021 Ram 2500 Power Wagon?

The 2021 Power Wagon gained a 75th Anniversary Edition package. Its core off-road hardware still includes locking front and rear differentials, a disconnecting front stabilizer bar, Bilstein shocks, skid plates, and a built-in WARN winch.

Did the 2021 Ram 2500 receive a major engine or towing upgrade?

No. The 2021 Ram 2500 did not receive a major lineup-wide powertrain upgrade. Ram's headline diesel torque and towing gains for this model year centered on the 3500 rather than the 2500.

Is the 2021 Ram 2500 substantially different from the 2020 model?

No. The 2021 model is largely a carryover, so the meaningful differences are limited to the Limited Night Edition, the Power Wagon 75th Anniversary Edition, and the digital rearview mirror.

About owner reviews

Carvana owner reviews are provided in partnership with Strategic Vision, one of the largest automotive consumer research providers in the U.S. Star ratings are from ranking surveys completed by owners one to six months post-purchase. Comments from owners are optional, but included here when available.

“Solid vehicle. Drives great for a large truck. Tradesman seats are terrible for comfort. No lumbar support or power adjust. Transmission (68rfe) doesn't give a great feeling compared to the competition but is satisfactory. Visibility for driver is poor mostly in the front. Diesel engine is strong, towing is excellent, mpg is good, hauling capacity is great, and the DEF fluid isn't that big of deal.”

“The truck is solid, runs strong, looks great, and is very comfortable, and my family feels safe in it. I can drive clients in it because it looks great, I can haul stuff on the weekend, I am 6'5" 290 and it fits me great.”
