2017 Volkswagen Golf SportWagen 1.8L TSI
Utility, fit and finish, design and materials, visibility, safety, and driving pleasure are all first rate. Roadability and economy are also very good. I only regret that I had could not have the top model convenience and safety features I wanted in combination with manual transmission, which I would have preferred. In this case, for the first time in my life, I sacrificed the manual transmission for the safety and convenience features (and the 6-speed automatic is excellent, for what it is).

I love my Golf. It handles really well and feels very safe. Great visibility and acceleration. Very comfortable. It has four-wheel drive but doesn't LOOK like a car with four-wheel drive (which I prefer).

Having owned a 2014 Jetta Sport Wagon with manual 6 Speed Transmission, I was very surprised how much better and how different the driving experience is with the Golf 4 Motion Wagon with DSG Transmission. For me it is like a different car in the same exterior package. The performance is well beyond the 2014 model at a similar price point in today's $s.

I would strongly encourage the manual transmission and would probably bemoan the fact that a diesel is no longer available. I would mention that if you are over 6 feet 2inches, getting in and out is a bit of a challenge, but once in, you can make your body fit like a glove.
