About the 2014 Ram 2500

4th-generation Ram Heavy Duty, major 2500-specific chassis update year within the 2010-2018 generation.

The 2014 Ram 2500 is a heavy-duty pickup aimed at buyers who need real towing and hauling ability but do not want to give up day-to-day comfort. Ram’s big selling point was that this truck felt more polished inside and rode more smoothly than most HD rivals, helped by its coil-spring rear suspension and upscale cabin design. In this lineup, you could go from a plain work truck to a leather-lined tow rig or a serious factory off-road Power Wagon without leaving the same basic model family.

The lineup ranged from the work-focused Tradesman to the more polished Big Horn and Lone Star, plus leather-lined Laramie luxury models. Power Wagon versions paired the 6.4-liter V8 with locking differentials, a 12,000-pound winch, and a disconnecting front sway bar, while the new Laramie Limited added black leather, push-button start, and 20-inch wheels.

What changed, by category

Structural
Every Ram 2500 moved to a new five-link coil-spring rear suspension. A load-leveling rear air suspension also joined later in the model year, and the truck adopted the newer heavy-duty structure.
Powertrain
A 6.4-liter HEMI V8 joined the engine lineup and became standard in the Power Wagon versions. The existing 5.7-liter HEMI V8 and 6.7-liter Cummins diesel continued.
Tech
Factory-integrated fifth-wheel/gooseneck trailer prep joined the lineup.
Safety
Rear parking sensors became standard on the Laramie and Laramie Power trims instead of optional.
Styling
Trim equipment and appearance details were refreshed. The black-leather Laramie Limited joined as the top luxury trim, Laramie Longhorn Edition was renamed Laramie Longhorn, and the Laramie Longhorn Limited Edition was dropped.

“After buying the truck I learn that the tires cannot be rotated unless the tire is removed from the wheel and remounted. The Alcoa wheels are only finished on one side making it less than desirable to rotate (how ridiculous is this?). I did not know this before purchasing the truck... had I known I would NOT have bought a Dually!!! This single issue really pisses me off... will never buy a dually again.”

“Truck is great. UConnect so far is a failure. 30 maybe 40% of the time the truck will start using this feature. It will not tell you when the vehicle shuts off. Also there is no location feature with UConnect. UConnect is lacking many features.”

“This is the 5th Dodge product I've owned and the 3rd Ram truck and this vehicle has been in the shop more than any of the others. And I've only had it since mid-April.”
