About the 2024 MINI Hardtop

3rd generation Hardtop family (F56 2-door / F55 4-door), after the 2022 refresh, final model year before the 2025 gas-model redesign; also the final U.S. year for the F56-based Cooper SE electric hatch.

The Hardtop is MINI’s core small hatchback: a compact, style-heavy runabout built around quick steering, playful handling, and a more upscale feel than most small cars. In U.S. form for 2024, it covers several personalities with the same basic formula—entry-level Cooper, quicker Cooper S, all-electric Cooper SE, and track-flavored John Cooper Works. The main appeal is simple: distinctive design, easy city size, and a more entertaining drive than a typical commuter hatch.

The Cooper is the simple, classic version, while the 189-hp Cooper S adds stronger performance without giving up everyday usability. The 181-hp Cooper SE is the city-focused electric model with an EPA-rated 114-mile range, and the 228-hp John Cooper Works sits at the top with a sport suspension and more aggressive bodywork.

“Perfect package of acceleration and handling for an EV, a great car to transition to EV for shorter commutes. The infotainment is missing android auto, native maps are unusable.”
