About the 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

6th generation (W214/S214), first U.S. model year for the redesigned sedan and redesigned All-Terrain wagon.

Mercedes-Benz positions the E-Class as the brand’s core midsize luxury car: a comfortable, tech-heavy daily driver that blends traditional Mercedes quietness and elegance with a far more digital cabin. In sedan form, it is the benchmark-style executive car for commuting and highway travel. In wagon form, it adds family and cargo flexibility without giving up the upscale feel. The big draw versus rivals is the mix of comfort, polished powertrains, and a very advanced cabin interface.

The E 350 4MATIC is the comfort-focused core sedan, with a mild-hybrid four-cylinder engine, standard all-wheel drive, a 14.4-inch touchscreen, a panoramic glass roof, and a surround-view parking camera. The stronger E 450 4MATIC uses a mild-hybrid inline-six and comes as either a sedan or the more versatile All-Terrain wagon, which adds extra cargo room and light off-pavement ability.

What changed, by category

Powertrain
The redesigned E 350 uses a new mild-hybrid turbo four-cylinder, while the E 450 gets an updated mild-hybrid turbo inline-six. E 350 output rises from 273 to 295 lb-ft of torque, and E 450 output rises from 362 to 375 horsepower. Standard all-wheel drive replaces the previous rear-wheel-drive E 350 and E 450 trims in the mainstream U.S. sedan lineup.
Styling
The sedan receives a completely new exterior design. The redesigned All-Terrain wagon carries the same new-generation look with more rugged body trim.
Safety
A new safety structure and an updated foundation for driver-assistance features arrive with the redesign. A surround-view camera and hands-free parking assistance are standard on the E 350 4MATIC and E 450 4MATIC.
Tech
The cabin is overhauled with third-generation MBUX software, larger digital displays, a 14.4-inch central touchscreen, augmented-reality navigation, and Digital Vehicle Key.
Structural
The E-Class moves to a new-generation body and cabin package with a longer wheelbase and revised interior packaging. Both the sedan and All-Terrain wagon are redesigned.

How the 2025 Mercedes-Benz E-Class compares

The most important change for the 2025 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is a standard front center airbag across the lineup. Mercedes also adds a rear-wheel-drive E 350 sedan, while the rest of the recently redesigned E-Class largely carries over.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class a new generation?

Yes. The 2024 E-Class is the first U.S. model year of the sixth-generation sedan and redesigned All-Terrain wagon, with a new body, cabin, electronic system, and powertrain lineup.

What is the biggest difference between the 2024 and 2023 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?

Does the 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class have standard all-wheel drive?

Yes. The mainstream 2024 U.S. sedan lineup consists of the E 350 4MATIC and E 450 4MATIC, both with all-wheel drive; the previous rear-wheel-drive E 350 and E 450 trims are gone.

What technology changed in the 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?

Was the 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class All-Terrain wagon redesigned too?

Yes. The 2024 E 450 All-Terrain wagon enters the new generation with the redesigned cabin, an updated mild-hybrid inline-six, wagon cargo space, and body treatment intended for light off-pavement driving.

“Excellent vehicle. Boring silver exterior. MBTex interior and Ash wood paneling uninspiring, especially in all black.”

“Have had the car 2 months and have had 2 episodes where the electronics failed. The current one (which is still being repaired) would not allow me to start the car. All systems failed. At this writing, I do not know the reason.”

“Electronics are not reliable, need the car for less than two weeks and entire software needed to be updated and drove the car and the entire dashboard went blank while driving.”
