2023 Ram 2500

About the 2023 Ram 2500

5th generation Ram Heavy Duty (2019-2024), late-generation year before the 2025 update.

Ram positions the 2500 as a heavy-duty pickup that can do hard towing and hauling work without giving up cabin comfort. The model’s core draw is its broad range: basic work-truck trims for jobsite duty, well-equipped mid and luxury trims for long-distance towing, and real factory off-road versions for trail use. Compared with many heavy-duty rivals, Ram leans heavily on ride comfort, interior richness, and trim variety as the reason to choose a 2500.

The 2023 Ram 2500 ranges from the work-focused Tradesman to the leather-lined Limited, with Big Horn and Laramie serving buyers who want more everyday comfort. The new Rebel combines skid plates, Bilstein off-road shocks, and a locking rear axle, while the more specialized Power Wagon has a front winch, locking front and rear axles, and a disconnecting front sway bar for rough trails.

Frequently asked questions

What is the biggest change to the 2023 Ram 2500?

The new Rebel trim is the biggest change. It sits between Laramie and Power Wagon, combining standard 4WD, Bilstein off-road shocks, a locking rear axle, skid plates, and either the 6.4-liter gas V8 or 6.7-liter Cummins diesel.

Is the 2023 Ram 2500 significantly different from the 2022 model?

No, 2023 is a light update rather than a redesign. The Rebel trim, new display and camera options, and Trailer Reverse Steering Control are the main changes; most of the truck carries over.

Which Ram 2500 trims changed for 2023?

Trailer Reverse Steering Control was added as an option for 2023. It is designed to help the driver steer a trailer while backing up.

What equipment changed on existing 2023 Ram 2500 trims?

Several features changed status for 2023. Laramie moved fog lights, LED headlights, and park assist from standard to optional, while park assist also became optional on Laramie Longhorn, Limited, and Power Wagon. Power Wagon made dual-zone climate control, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and remote start standard.

“If you need a vehicle for towing, the Ram 3500 diesel is the truck for you. It has all the power you need to negotiate the big hills and plenty of stopping ability between mechanical and engine brake. It is a joy to haul over the road.”

JCJames C.
2023 Ram 2500 Mega Cab 4WD

“Great truck with comfort and plenty of towing capacity. Base model does not include all safety features (but should). Diesel engines get better MPG that offsets the cost of fuel and provides better towing capabilities.”

SMScotty M.

“Excellent truck for towing/hauling, love the diesel engine and the exhaust brake for towing”
