About the 2022 BMW i4

1st generation (G26), first U.S. model year

BMW positions the i4 as an electric alternative to a traditional sport sedan without abandoning familiar BMW road manners. Its four-door liftback body adds useful passenger and cargo space, while the low-mounted battery, rear air suspension, quick electric response, and driver-focused dashboard support comfortable commuting and long trips. The model’s main distinction is its blend of practical Gran Coupe packaging, strong acceleration, premium cabin quality, and a driving feel closer to a conventional BMW than many purpose-styled EVs.

The eDrive40 is the long-distance version, with a 335-hp rear motor, rear-wheel drive, and a power liftgate for easy cargo access. The M50 xDrive focuses on performance with dual motors, all-wheel drive, a 536-hp boost mode, stronger brakes, and an adaptive suspension. Both have an 81.1-kWh usable battery, rear air suspension, and a curved digital dashboard with a 12.3-inch driver display and 14.9-inch touchscreen.

“Very satisfying ownership experience. Great combination of performance, quality, comfort, and practicality.”

NGNate G.
2022 BMW i4 M50 Gran Coupe AWD

“Purchasers of EV vehicles today are early adopters. Products will be mature when range exceeds 500 miles and long term reliability/durability is established. To date the BMW i4 M50 has been excellent in all respects except for range. Oh, and cornering lights s/b standard, along with a bit more rear lip.”
