If you only need a car for 2 or with 2 small kids, the CX-30 is a good alternative to the CX 5. It has the same engine and costs less. It looks just as nice inside and out.

This is a first generation CX-30 so the entire body is not the same color, unfortunately has black plastic trim along the bottom so choose a dark color otherwise looks kinda clunky and might be mistaken for a base model even if You get the top line. Very sporty and fun to drive. Apparently cannot unlock all doors from the driver door, very annoying. Also the key-fob signal can be blocked if your phone is in the same pocket as the fob so what that with your auto-lock and touch unlock feature. "Sub-compact" crossover, so can feel at times like I'm climbing in and out of a sedan. As a healthcare worker on my feet all day, that isn't the most fun thing in the world. The CX-5 had better height to avoid this but after having 2, the current body is feeling dated and I mainly see grandparents driving them around town so I opted for the 30. EXTREMELY annoying that the parking brake is auto-applied and when I get in to go, you either have to manually turn it off or gently tap the accelerator to get it to go off. No way I've been able to fine to disable it, but should be an opt-in feature. The "PUT ON YOUR SEATBELT" tone is the most annoying clacking ring I've ever heard on a car, so basically have your seatbelt on before you crank the thing or else you'll want to pull your hair out every time you crank it. The auto-'brights' headlight feature is nice if you live in the country, but living in the city you basically have to flip it off at night as soon as you get in otherwise someone will think you're trying to cause a seizure or plan to stalk them, this should be a feature to turn on, not off. I'm not sure the sensors alerting you to hitting something are always on. The auto-brake system has kicked in when I purposely was idling toward the garage door and again when somebody quickly braked and made a quick right turn in front of me. However when I'm backing up and get near an object like another car in the parking lot I'll basically be on the 'red' line in the camera and no beep or anything. The Ford Ranger we just leased has green, yellow, red levels that show on the sensor and increasing tone based on how close you get, so not sure on that one. Even on the grand touring model that I got the auto-dimming mirror with home link is not standard and cost me like $300 extra bucks, this is ridiculous for this package level. The Grand Touring CX5 had a heated steering wheel option, the 30 doesn't, also ridiculous for those of us living in winter climates of Michigan. The washer fluid nozzles are embedded in the wipers so it flows out as you wipe rather than spraying everywhere, so that's cool. Great get up and go for such a little body and engine, much more pep than the CX-5 though I think it's similar drivetrains. Brakes are very responsive compared to my 2017 CX-5 which felt like I had to put the pedal to the floor to get any stopping out of the brand new vehicle. Very comfortable and quiet ride, also compared to the previous CX-5 model I had, handles better, doesn't seem as noisy, more zip. Love the HUD on the grand tourings of Mazda, dunno how anybody can drive a car without one. Test drove a Ford without a HUD and for a second hand to figure out how fast I was going and what the speed limit was without just looking at the windshield. Good little car but as a first year of a new model, they likely have improvements planned, and are also needed.

Look at what you really need and take your time. It may seem like a great buy but I don't know if it was worth the price. The room for others in the back is very small, if they are tall too they will be hitting their heads. If you are alone, get it. If you are planning ahead such as family, don't.

I've owned five new Mazda's. They are reliable, fun to drive cars. The CX30 is a good fit between the 3 and CX5.
