About the 2021 Ford F-150

14th generation, first year; also the first F-150 Tremor and the first year of the third-generation Raptor

Ford positions the F-150 as a broad-purpose full-size pickup built for commercial work, towing, family use, and recreation. Its defining strength is range: multiple cab and bed layouts, several engines, strong payload and trailer capability, work-focused bed features, and trims spanning basic job-site duty through luxury and extreme off-road use. The 2021 redesign adds modern cabin technology without changing the truck’s core identity as a durable, configurable work tool.

The lineup runs from the work-focused XL and everyday XLT to the comfort-oriented Lariat and luxury-themed King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited. Lariat and the luxury trims have twin 12-inch displays, while upper trims add features such as leather seating, premium audio, advanced cameras, and adaptive cruise control. The off-road range includes the new Tremor with a locking rear differential and skid plates, plus a redesigned Raptor with a high-output twin-turbo V6 and coil-spring rear suspension.

What changed, by category

Powertrain
The PowerBoost full-hybrid V6 joined the lineup in XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited trucks. Engine outputs were updated, and every engine was paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
Styling
The redesign brought new body panels, grilles, lights, bumpers, and tailgates, along with distinct front-end treatments for different trims.
Safety
The new electrical system supported broader driver-assistance features. XLT gained standard blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assistance, rear parking sensors, and reverse automatic braking, while adaptive cruise control became standard on King Ranch and Platinum. A brake-hold function for stops also became standard across the range.
Tech
Ford's SYNC 4 touchscreen system became standard, using an 8-inch or 12-inch screen depending on trim. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were standard across the lineup, and higher trims gained a 12-inch digital instrument display.
Structural
Ford revised the steel frame, aluminum body, and cab as part of the full redesign. The third-generation Raptor also replaced its old rear setup with a five-link coil-spring suspension designed for better control over rough terrain.

“V8 power! Large fuel tank which delivers more than 600 miles between fill ups. 415 HP and still manages 21-22 mpg on highway. The 4WD is easy to use as long as you know how to use it and turn off the traction control and other computer systems. This is a quality built truck and holds its value.”

“The 2021 Ford Lariat supercrew 3.0 ecoboost is an amazing truck. This truck exceeds my needs for everyday use and provides more than enough power for long trips pulling our travel trailer. The truck acts as a generator on my jobsites, has enough room to double as an office, and acts as a wifi hotspot for when I need to work from my computer.”
