2020 Ram 1500

The biggest change for the 2020 Ram 1500 is the return of the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 across nearly the entire lineup; only the HFE goes without it. Otherwise, this is a modest follow-up to the truck’s 2019 redesign.

About the 2020 Ram 1500

5th generation (DT), second year after the 2019 redesign.

Ram positions the 1500 as a full-size pickup that blends real work capability with a more comfortable, more upscale everyday driving experience than many rivals. The pitch centers on strong towing and hauling, clever storage, a quiet cabin, and available luxury-grade interiors and large touchscreens. Even in lower trims it is sold as more than a basic jobsite tool, while upper trims lean hard into premium materials and comfort without giving up truck usefulness.

The 2020 lineup runs from the work-focused Tradesman and everyday-friendly Big Horn to the trail-ready Rebel, which has Bilstein off-road shocks, skid plates, and a locking rear differential. Laramie adds leather and an 8.4-inch touchscreen, while Limited tops the range with premium leather, a 12-inch touchscreen, wireless charging, and blind-spot monitoring with trailer detection.

How the 2021 Ram 1500 compares

The biggest change for the 2021 Ram 1500 is the arrival of the TRX, a supercharged V8 off-road performance truck. The wider lineup also gains an EcoDiesel HFE model and expanded towing, safety, and display technology.

Frequently asked questions

What is the biggest change to the 2020 Ram 1500?

The biggest change is the return of the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6. It expanded the lineup with a torque-focused diesel alternative one year after the Ram 1500’s full redesign.

Which 2020 Ram 1500 trims have the EcoDiesel engine?

Diesel versions exist in Tradesman, Big Horn, Lone Star, Rebel, Laramie, Laramie Longhorn, and Limited trims. The mileage-focused HFE did not receive the EcoDiesel.

Was the 2020 Ram 1500 fully redesigned?

No, the 2020 Ram 1500 was not redesigned. It was the second year of the fifth-generation truck introduced for 2019, so its basic design, cab choices, ride tuning, and interior theme carried over.

What changed on the 2020 Ram 1500 Rebel?

The 2020 Rebel gained the EcoDiesel V6 and a standard 12-way power driver’s seat. Remote start was no longer standard, while its raised suspension, Bilstein shocks, locking rear differential, and skid plates continued.

Did the 2020 Ram 1500 Night Edition return?

Yes, the Night Edition appearance package returned for the 2020 Big Horn and Laramie. It was a styling-package change rather than a redesign of either trim.
