About the 2019 Ram 3500

5th generation Ram Heavy Duty, first year of the redesign for the pickup line.

The 2019 Ram 3500 is Ram’s heavy-duty pickup for buyers who need serious towing and payload ability without giving up cabin comfort. Ram markets it as a truck that can handle hard commercial work, big trailers, and long highway miles while also offering a quieter, more upscale interior than most heavy-duty rivals. Its big differentiators are diesel towing strength, available Mega Cab space, and a luxury/tech experience that reaches far beyond a basic work truck.

The 2019 lineup stretches from the work-focused Tradesman, with a vinyl bench and 5-inch touchscreen, to the more comfortable Big Horn and Texas-branded Lone Star. Laramie and Laramie Longhorn bring leather, larger touchscreens, and added cabin comfort, while Limited tops the range with a 12-inch navigation touchscreen, premium audio, and a broader set of driver-assistance features.

What changed, by category

Structural
A new heavy-duty platform brings a stronger frame, revised body structure, new axles, updated mounts and bushings, and wider use of high-strength steel and aluminum. These changes also help reduce noise inside the cab.
Powertrain
Ram updated the gas and diesel engine choices and changed their automatic-transmission pairings. The diesel lineup rises from 350 horsepower and 660–800 lb-ft of torque in 2018 to 370–400 horsepower and 850–1,000 lb-ft for 2019, with the high-output diesel helping raise maximum towing capability.
Styling
The body and cabin are fully redesigned, including the front end, hood, grille designs, lighting, dashboard, and trim-specific interior details.
Safety
The redesigned truck adds broader driver-assistance and camera coverage, including adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and a surround-view camera on Limited. Most major safety additions remain limited to certain trims or equipment packages, and park assist changes from standard to optional on Laramie, Laramie Longhorn, and Limited.
Tech
Every trim gains standard push-button start, and HEMI-powered trucks use a rotary gear selector. The infotainment system is redesigned, a 12-inch touchscreen arrives at the top of the range, Bluetooth becomes standard on Tradesman, and remote start becomes standard on Laramie.
