2019 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

The 2019 Mercedes-Benz E-Class received a light update led by the E 400 models becoming E 450s with a stronger 362-hp twin-turbo V6. New AMG E 53 mild-hybrid models also joined the range, but the basic E-Class formula remained much the same.

About the 2019 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Current fifth-generation E-Class family: sedan and wagon were in their third model year for 2019, while the coupe and cabriolet were in their second year on the newer body style.

Mercedes positions the E-Class as its do-everything midsize luxury car: quiet, comfortable, highly technical, and available in more body styles than most rivals. The core appeal is long-distance comfort, a rich interior, advanced safety thinking, and easy-to-use big-screen infotainment rather than sharp-edge sportiness. It stands out because shoppers can get the same E-Class character as a sedan, wagon, coupe, or cabriolet, with either efficient four-cylinder or stronger six-cylinder power.

The E 300 is the comfort-focused entry sedan, with a 241-hp turbo four-cylinder, a 12.3-inch navigation screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and power front seats with memory. The E 450 brings smoother, stronger V6 power to sedan, wagon, coupe, and cabriolet models, while the coupe and cabriolet emphasize relaxed grand-touring comfort and two-door style. All-wheel-drive versions add extra traction, and the AMG E 53 mild hybrids sit above the mainstream trims.

How the 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class compares

The biggest change for the 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is the base sedan’s move from E 300 to E 350, along with a stronger 255-hp turbocharged four-cylinder. The broader lineup also receives more standard safety, convenience, and cabin equipment.

Frequently asked questions

Was the 2019 Mercedes-Benz E-Class fully redesigned?

No. The 2019 E-Class was a light update within the fifth generation, not a full redesign. Its main changes were the stronger E 450 V6 models, the addition of AMG E 53 mild hybrids, a redesigned steering wheel, and standard heated front seats.

What is the difference between the 2019 E 450 and the 2018 E 400?

The E 450 is the renamed and more powerful continuation of the E 400. It keeps a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6, but for 2019 it produces 362 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque.

Is the AMG E 53 new for the 2019 E-Class?

Yes. Mercedes added the AMG E 53 mild-hybrid models for 2019, positioning them above the mainstream E 300 and E 450 trims.

Are heated front seats standard on the 2019 E-Class?

Yes. Heated front seats became standard across the 2019 E-Class lineup after being optional for 2018.

Is the 2019 E-Class worth considering over the 2018 model?

The 2019 model is the more meaningful choice if you want the stronger E 450 V6, an AMG E 53 mild hybrid, or standard heated front seats. Otherwise, the core design, comfort, and technology are broadly similar to the 2018 E-Class.

“I would tell them that I'm not overly impressed with the vehicle interior craftsmanship nor the ride. I have found 2 problems in the interior and the ride is extremely rough for a Mercedes with Air Suspension. I'm coming from having a BMW with run flat tires and it rode a lot quieter and smoother on the road.”

“It's wonderful. Big enough for us, and company if needed. Sexy looking sports car, functional as an everyday vehicle. Convertible for fun nights out, closed for travel with our doggie [Name].”
