About the 2018 Tesla Model 3

1st generation (2017-2023), second model year, major lineup-expansion year before the lower-priced Standard Range models arrived for 2019.

Tesla positioned the Model 3 as the smaller, more attainable Tesla sedan: long electric range, quick acceleration, a minimalist tech-heavy cabin, and access to Tesla fast charging in a five-seat four-door. What separated it from other small sedans was not traditional luxury trim so much as the one-screen interior, software-driven feel, and EV performance that could match or outrun many gas sport sedans. For most buyers, this was the mainstream Tesla.

The 2018 Model 3 ranged from the 260-mile, rear-wheel-drive Mid Range to the 450-hp, dual-motor AWD Performance model. Long Range offered up to 310 miles of EPA-rated range, while signature equipment included a 15-inch center touchscreen, built-in navigation, heated power front seats and a fixed glass roof.

“All in all it's a great car and a few minor software updates later and it seems to have become even better! I'm surprised I love the bare central dashboard. I don't miss the central gauges like in my BMW. I realized I often drive leaning to the right and as a result the speed gauge is actually closer to my line of sight. I think anyone coming from a non Tesla to this will be blown away.”

“Excellent acceleration, power and handling. All electric, so no need to purchase $6/gal. gasoline. Control screen is quirky and takes getting used to. Automatically downloading system updates is great. Some build quality issues - fit and finish mostly. Overall, worth the investment.”
