About the 2017 Volvo V60

1st generation, post-2014 exterior and interior update; second-to-last US model year before the redesigned 2019 V60.

Volvo positioned the V60 as an elegant, versatile premium wagon that combines the road manners of a compact sport sedan with useful cargo space and family-focused safety. Its main appeal was a lower, more car-like alternative to a compact luxury SUV, with supportive seats, a flexible 40/20/40 rear seat, understated Scandinavian design, and multiple personalities ranging from raised Cross Country capability to limited-production Polestar performance.

The T5 is the straightforward premium wagon, while the Cross Country adds AWD, 7.9 inches of ground clearance, and hill-descent control for snow and rough roads. The T5 Dynamic brings sportier looks without a firmer performance suspension, and Platinum versions emphasize features such as adaptive cruise control and automatic collision braking. At the top, the 302-hp R-Design is the regular performance model, while the limited-production, 362-hp Polestar adds specialized suspension, brakes, steering, and AWD tuning.

What changed, by category

Powertrain
Every U.S. V60 moved to a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine paired with an eight-speed automatic. Regular T5 and Cross Country models used a 240-hp turbo engine, the T6 R-Design received a 302-hp turbocharged and supercharged engine, and the T6 Polestar rose from 325 to 362 hp with a heavily upgraded version of that engine.
Styling
The new T5 Dynamic trim added reshaped bumpers, black roof rails, 18-inch wheels, leather sport seats, and other sport-focused details while retaining the regular 240-hp T5 powertrain and touring-oriented ride.
Safety
On the T6 R-Design, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, automatic high beams, and lane-departure warning changed from optional to standard equipment.
Structural
The Polestar received revised AWD and steering tuning, larger slotted front brake discs, and weight-distribution changes. This was specific to Polestar rather than a redesign of the full V60 lineup.
