2017 Volvo S60

The biggest change for the 2017 Volvo S60 is a simplified trim lineup built around the new T5 Dynamic. It is not a redesign, but the T6 Polestar gets a significant new 362-hp four-cylinder powertrain.

About the 2017 Volvo S60

2nd generation S60 (2011-2018 US), late-cycle year after the earlier mid-cycle refresh and before the all-new 2019 redesign.

Volvo positioned the S60 as an elegant, dynamic small luxury sedan that blended everyday comfort with strong safety credentials. Compared with German rivals, the S60 leaned more toward supportive seats, calm road manners, and useful driver-assist technology than flashy performance—while still offering distinct personalities through the long-wheelbase Inscription, lifted Cross Country, and high-performance Polestar versions. Its core appeal was a solid, understated premium sedan that felt different from the usual 3 Series, A4, or C-Class formula.

The T5 Dynamic is the sporty core sedan, while the longer Inscription models focus on rear-seat room and comfort. The raised, AWD Cross Country brings a more rugged setup, and the T6 Polestar tops the range with AWD, adjustable performance suspension, and Brembo front brakes.

What changed, by category

Powertrain
The mainstream S60 range centered on Volvo’s 240-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder and 8-speed automatic, including that new setup for the T5 Cross Country. The T6 Polestar replaced its previous engine with a 362-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder using both a supercharger and turbocharger, paired with a Polestar-tuned 8-speed automatic. It also received a lighter front end and revised performance tuning.
Styling
The new T5 Dynamic became the sport-look short-wheelbase core trim. Volvo dropped the prior T5 Premier, T5 R-Design, T6, T6 Platinum, T6 R-Design, and T5 Cross Country Platinum trims. T5 Inscription Premier was renamed T5 Inscription, and T5 was renamed T5 Cross Country. The body itself was not redesigned.
Safety
Blind-spot sensors changed from standard to optional on the T6 R-Design Platinum. There was no new safety-suite upgrade across the full lineup.

“The S60 Cross Country is a really nice vehicle giving you a nice mix of luxury and performance. The slightly higher stance and all wheel drive make weekend adventures possible and turns heads as well. The seats are very comfortable for longer drives and the quality of the interior fantastic for this price point.”
