About the 2015 Ford C-MAX

US-market C-MAX Hybrid/Energi generation (2013-2018), mid-run 2015 model year before the 2016 Sync 3 update.

Ford positioned the C-MAX as an efficient five-passenger multi-activity vehicle: a tall hatchback/wagon that mixed hybrid fuel savings with stronger acceleration, upright seating, and family-friendly space. Compared with Prius-family rivals, Ford leaned into a more responsive driving feel, more power, and a roomy, flexible cabin. For most shoppers, the C-MAX’s core appeal was simple: hybrid efficiency without giving up everyday utility, easy entry, and a more substantial, less stripped-down feel.

The C-MAX SE is the practical everyday hybrid, with a tall cabin, flexible cargo space, dual-zone climate control, and displays that help the driver track efficiency. The more upscale SEL adds heated leather-trimmed front seats, an 8-inch touchscreen, push-button start, rear parking sensors, and rain-sensing wipers. The plug-in C-MAX Energi is an SEL-only model for 2015.

Frequently asked questions

What changed on the 2015 Ford C-MAX compared with the 2014 model?

No major product changes were made for 2015. The powertrains, exterior design, safety equipment, interior packaging, and main technology features carried over from 2014.

Does the 2015 Ford C-MAX come as both a regular hybrid and a plug-in hybrid?

Yes. The 2015 lineup includes the regular C-MAX Hybrid in SE and SEL trims, while the plug-in C-MAX Energi is an SEL-only model.

Did the 2015 Ford C-MAX get Ford’s Sync 3 touchscreen system?

No. The 2015 C-MAX uses Ford’s earlier Sync interfaces. Sync 3 arrives with the 2016 model-year update.

Is the 2015 Ford C-MAX meaningfully different from the 2014 model?

No. There is no meaningful product-update advantage to the 2015 model over the 2014, so a used-car shopper should focus more on condition, mileage, maintenance history, and trim equipment.

Did the 2015 Ford C-MAX receive powertrain or fuel-economy changes?

No. The regular hybrid keeps its 2.0-liter hybrid system with 188 combined horsepower, while the Energi retains its plug-in hybrid setup and 7.6-kWh battery. Fuel-economy ratings are unchanged.

Comments from owners are optional, but included here when available.

“Ford needs to be providing up to date technology with the Sync module. Specifically, ability to download apps that other manufacturers as well as Ford allow. Navigation is an outdated system. There are several superior ones available such as Google Maps and Waze that should be made available and not waste money on ''old'' technology.”

“It is a great vehicle. Built bare basics and possibly cheaply, but cheaper to repair, more simple and it does the job.”

“I am satisfied with my C-Max. The gas mileage is great. After filling the tank the computer says over 550 mile till empty. I enjoy the two sided climate control. The ride and suspension is great. I found myself speeding, and could not believe the speedometer. I timed a mile, and the speedometer was correct.”
