About the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

4th generation (WK2), mid-cycle refresh year.

Jeep positioned the 2014 Grand Cherokee as a midsize SUV that blends everyday comfort with real Jeep capability. It was meant to handle commuting, family trips, towing, and rough-weather or off-road driving without feeling like a dedicated truck. Compared with many rivals, the Grand Cherokee stood out by offering a wider range of personalities: simple Laredo models, comfort-focused Limited and Overland trims, a luxury-leaning Summit, and the very fast SRT.

The 2014 lineup ranges from the straightforward Laredo to the comfort-focused Limited and more luxurious Overland and Summit. Overland stands out with ventilated leather seats, navigation, and a panoramic roof, while Summit adds a 19-speaker audio system and more driver-assistance features. The SRT remains the performance model, with a 6.4-liter V8, Brembo brakes, and a performance-tuned all-wheel-drive system.

What changed, by category

An eight-speed automatic transmission became standard across the lineup. A 3.0-liter diesel engine joined the Limited and Overland.

Tech
The cabin gained a 7-inch configurable driver display and newer touchscreen systems. The base Laredo made its touchscreen, Bluetooth, USB ports, remote start, and keyless access standard, while some Limited equipment such as navigation became optional.

How the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee compares

The biggest change for the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee is the late-year arrival of the dark-trimmed High Altitude model. Otherwise, this is mostly a refinement year following the major 2014 update.

Frequently asked questions

Was the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee fully redesigned?

No. The 2014 Grand Cherokee is a major mid-cycle refresh of the fourth-generation model, not a complete redesign. Its exterior, cabin displays, touchscreen systems, transmission, and trim lineup were updated.

Does every 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee have an eight-speed automatic?

Yes. The eight-speed automatic became standard across the 2014 Grand Cherokee lineup, including the V6 models and the V8-powered SRT.

Which 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee trims have the diesel engine?

The 3.0-liter diesel joined the Limited and Overland for 2014. It was not added to every trim.

Did Jeep rename any Grand Cherokee trims for 2014?

Yes. Laredo X became Laredo E, Overland Summit became Summit, and SRT8 became SRT. The SRT8 Alpine, SRT8 Vapor, and TrailHawk trims were dropped.

What is the main difference between the 2014 and 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

The 2014 has a broader set of updates than the 2013, led by refreshed styling, a revised interior, newer displays and touchscreens, and an eight-speed automatic across the lineup. It also adds a diesel option to Limited and Overland and revises several trim names and equipment packages.

“LOVE THE VEHICLE. However, we used Uconnect WiFi for the first time while traveling to vacation - we thought that using Pandora via wifi would allow us to conserve data on our cell phone plan. However, even though my phone was synced to the wifi connection, our data was still used in lieu of the wifi connection while using internet radio. We were not impressed with the wifi and will probably not use it again.”
