About the 2013 Jaguar XJ

X351 generation, third US model year; substantial powertrain, drivetrain, suspension and infotainment update.

Jaguar positioned the XJ as a large luxury sedan with the shape and driving character of a much smaller sporting car. Its lightweight aluminum body, coupe-like roofline and adaptive suspension set it apart from more formal rivals, while the cabin emphasized stitched leather, real wood, digital instruments and a panoramic roof. Standard- and long-wheelbase versions covered both driver-focused and rear-passenger-focused use.

The standard-wheelbase range leaned toward the driver: the XJ used the new 340-hp supercharged V6, while Supercharged and Supersport models brought 470- and 510-hp supercharged V8s. Long-wheelbase XJL models emphasized rear-seat comfort, topped by a limited-production four-seat model with reclining and massaging rear chairs, a powered work table, a beverage chiller and rear entertainment screens.

What changed, by category

Powertrain
A new 340-hp supercharged V6 arrived with the XJ's first rear-biased AWD system, including AWD versions of the XJ and XJL Portfolio. Every engine gained an 8-speed automatic and stop/start. Flexible-fuel versions also joined the XJ Supercharged, XJ Supersport, XJL Portfolio, XJL Supercharged and XJL Supersport ranges.
Ride and handling
Jaguar retuned the suspension springs, shock absorbers and control software to better isolate occupants from rough roads.
Technology and equipment
The infotainment and navigation interface was upgraded, and Meridian audio systems replaced the previous audio offerings. Ventilated and cooled front seats changed from standard to optional on the XJ trim.
Trim lineup
A limited-production, four-seat XJL model joined the US range. It used the long-wheelbase body and 510-hp supercharged V8, with two individual rear chairs, a full center console, a powered work table, a beverage chiller and dedicated rear entertainment equipment.

How the 2014 Jaguar XJ compares

The most important change for the 2014 Jaguar XJ is the new XJR performance flagship, which replaces the Supersport. This is a meaningful trim and equipment update, not a full redesign.

Frequently asked questions

What is the biggest change to the 2013 Jaguar XJ?

The biggest change is the XJ's first AWD system, paired with a new 340-hp supercharged V6. The system normally sends more power to the rear wheels and can shift power forward when extra traction is needed.

Which 2013 Jaguar XJ models have AWD?

AWD is found on 2013 XJ and XJL Portfolio versions powered by the 340-hp supercharged V6. The V8-powered versions use rear-wheel drive.

Did every 2013 Jaguar XJ get an 8-speed automatic?

Yes. Every listed 2013 XJ engine was paired with a new 8-speed automatic, and stop/start was added across the US powertrain range.

What is the limited-production four-seat 2013 Jaguar XJL?

It is a long-wheelbase XJL with the 510-hp supercharged V8 and two individual rear chairs in place of a conventional rear bench. Jaguar planned 30 for the United States, with a full rear center console, powered work table, beverage chiller and rear entertainment screens.

Is the 2013 Jaguar XJ meaningfully different from the 2012 model?

Yes. The 2013 model is meaningfully updated with AWD, a new supercharged V6, an 8-speed automatic, smoother suspension tuning and revised cabin technology. It is not a full redesign, but it changed much more than a quiet carryover year.
