Toyota Camry LE, SE, XLE Trims & More

In recent years, the LE is the comfort-and-efficiency trim, while the SE adds a firmer sport suspension, sharper bodywork, sport seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and paddle shifters. Both use the same hybrid system in the current generation.

On newer Camrys, Nightshade keeps the SE’s hybrid powertrain and sport suspension but adds a darker factory look. Its defining pieces are black exterior trim and 19-inch black wheels, rather than extra power or a different driving setup.

On newer Camrys, the XLE favors comfort and the XSE favors sport. Both have large 12.3-inch displays and heated front seats. The XLE adds quieter front side glass, while the XSE adds a sport suspension and more aggressive exterior details.

In the current generation, the XLE adds a 12.3-inch touchscreen and gauge display, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a power-adjustable front passenger seat and sound-reducing front side glass. It is the comfort-focused upgrade from the LE.

On newer models, the XSE builds on the SE’s sporty feel with 12.3-inch dashboard displays, leather-trimmed heated front seats and a heated steering wheel. It also has the lineup’s bolder front and rear styling while retaining the sport suspension.

In recent lineups, the LE is the efficiency-first pick. It keeps the core hybrid system, standard safety features, dual-zone climate control and phone integration without the larger wheels or sport-focused hardware found farther up the range.

On newer models, the XLE is the clearest fit. It emphasizes comfort with heated seats, a heated steering wheel, a power front passenger seat and sound-reducing front side glass instead of the firmer, sport-focused setup used by the SE and XSE.

The SE is the straightforward choice in recent lineups. It adds a firmer suspension, sport seats, paddle shifters and more aggressive body details, but it keeps the same practical cabin and hybrid powertrain as the other current Camrys.

The TRD is the performance-focused Camry sold from 2020 through 2024. It pairs a 3.5-liter V6 with a specially tuned suspension, a louder dual exhaust, an aerodynamic body kit and sport seats with red accents. It is not part of the newer hybrid-only lineup.

On 2020–2024 models, the TRD is the harder-edged choice, with standard V6 power, sharper suspension tuning, a louder exhaust and a large body kit. The XSE is the more comfort-oriented sport trim, with a more upscale cabin and less extreme styling.

They are closely related, but the name and details depend on the era. Earlier cars used SE Nightshade Edition, including versions with black trim and bronze wheels. The newer Nightshade is a separate lineup name based on the SE, with black trim and 19-inch black wheels.

The L was the plain entry trim in the early years of the 2018–2024 generation. Toyota dropped it for 2021, making LE the starting trim. The LE is generally the more useful used-car target because it sits above the no-frills L in the older trim ladder.

On older hybrid lineups, the Hybrid LE focuses on fuel economy and a calm ride. The Hybrid SE uses the same basic gas-electric system but adds a sport-tuned suspension, sportier body pieces, a rear spoiler and sport seats.

It depends on the era. Older lineups used Hybrid XLE to identify the gas-electric version of the comfort-focused XLE. Since the 2025 redesign, every U.S. Camry is a hybrid, so the trim is simply called XLE.

They are older, limited-run versions of the SE rather than separate high-performance models. Depending on the era, they bundled visible and useful upgrades such as larger wheels, a moonroof, a power driver’s seat, unique cabin accents or upgraded touchscreen equipment.

In the current generation, XLE and XSE have both a 12.3-inch touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital gauge display. LE, SE and Nightshade use an 8-inch touchscreen, with their other equipment differing by comfort or sport focus.
