On early R1Ts, Adventure is the regular well-equipped trim rather than a basic work truck. It pairs the truck’s storage and adjustable suspension with a panoramic roof, heated and ventilated front seats, wood cabin trim, and driver-assistance features.
On the newest R1Ts, Dual Standard uses the standard battery and keeps the core dual-motor AWD system, air suspension, storage, and screens. Dual is the step up for greater battery flexibility and the truck’s full 11,000-pound towing rating.
In the 2024–2025-era lineup, battery size is the main difference. Dual Large is rated for up to 330 miles, while Dual Max uses the biggest dual-motor battery and reaches up to 420 miles. Their basic dual-motor AWD layout and cabin equipment are similar.
In the second-generation lineup, Tri adds an 850-hp three-motor system, much stronger acceleration, and a richer Ascend interior. It also bundles features such as premium audio, a Dynamic Glass Roof, an air compressor, and Launch Mode.

California Dune Edition is a limited desert-themed R1T based on the Tri-Motor truck. It adds underbody protection, a powered bed cover, Soft Sand drive mode, a Dynamic Glass Roof, premium audio, and an exclusive Sandstone and Black Mountain cabin.
Dual Max is the range-first used R1T to look for. In the 2024–2025 era, its two-motor setup and Max battery delivered an EPA estimate of up to 420 miles, more than the Dual Large and performance-focused Tri or Quad versions.
Look for a version carrying the 11,000-pound maximum rating. In newer lineups, the core Dual reaches that figure without requiring Tri or Quad power. Quad Large also carries an 11,000-pound maximum, while other configurations may be rated lower.
Quad is the clearest choice for maximum off-road control because one motor powers each wheel and newer versions include underbody protection. Tri is a strong middle ground, while California Dune Edition adds a curated desert-focused setup to the Tri hardware.
Dual is the straightforward all-around choice in newer lineups. It keeps AWD, adjustable air suspension, the main storage features, and an 11,000-pound maximum towing rating without moving into the extra performance and richer cabin of Tri or Quad.
A newer Dual Standard keeps the R1T’s core hardware: dual-motor AWD, adjustable air suspension, a 15.6-inch center screen, a 12.3-inch driver display, heated and ventilated front seats, enclosed front and Gear Tunnel storage, and highway driving assistance.
Dual, Tri, and Quad describe the number of motors. Standard, Large, and Max describe battery size. Launch Edition and California Dune Edition identify special versions. Because Rivian changed the lineup over time, matching both the motor and battery name is important.
Quad Large refers to the earlier 835-hp four-motor truck paired with a Large battery and up to 328 miles of range. The newer second-generation Quad makes 1,025 hp and bundles premium roof, audio, air-compressor, dark-trim, and underbody-protection equipment.
