They identify the engine level. P250 Velars use a 247-hp turbo four-cylinder. P340 models use a 335-hp mild-hybrid turbo six, while P400 versions use a stronger six rated around 395 hp. The letters do not describe the equipment trim by themselves.
On newer Velars, both use the same turbo four-cylinder. Dynamic SE mainly adds a more assertive exterior treatment and extra everyday technology, including Meridian audio, blind-spot assistance, rear traffic monitoring, and adaptive cruise control with steering assistance.
On newer models, the main difference is the engine and related suspension hardware. P250 Dynamic SE has the 247-hp turbo four, while P400 Dynamic SE has the smoother 395-hp mild-hybrid six and Adaptive Dynamics suspension.
The P250 S is enough for shoppers focused on the Velar's design, cabin atmosphere, and everyday comfort. A P340 or P400 is the better fit when smoother acceleration and easier passing power matter more than keeping the powertrain simple.
On earlier Velars, R-Dynamic is mainly a sport-appearance treatment. It brings more aggressive bumpers, darker exterior details, and a sportier cabin look. The engine still depends on the P250, P340, or other powertrain badge attached to the trim name.
The key difference is the engine. In the era when both were sold, P250 used the turbo four, while P340 used a smoother and stronger mild-hybrid turbo six. Their R-Dynamic styling and core cabin equipment were otherwise closely aligned.
On earlier lineups, R-Dynamic SE emphasized sporty styling, digital displays, and added parking and awareness technology. R-Dynamic HSE sat above it with the mild-hybrid six, air suspension, and a fuller driver-assistance setup for a more relaxed long-distance feel.
The P400 HST is a sporty, high-trim Velar from the pre-refresh era. It combines the 395-hp mild-hybrid six with air suspension, adaptive damping, black exterior details, rich seating, a head-up display, and upgraded Meridian audio.
The SVAutobiography Dynamic is the one-year V8 performance flagship. It uses a 550-hp supercharged V8 plus specially tuned suspension, steering, transmission, exhaust, and larger brakes. Its quilted leather cabin also has heated, cooled, massaging front seats.
The First Edition is the launch-year showcase trim. It pairs the 380-hp supercharged V6 with extra off-road hardware, massaging and ventilated front seats, heated reclining rear seats, a head-up display, surround cameras, and the highest-level Meridian audio offered then.
Both Belgravia Editions use the same London-inspired badging, approach lights, special cabin trim, head-up display, configurable lighting, and Meridian audio. P250 has the turbo four-cylinder, while P400 adds the smoother and stronger 395-hp mild-hybrid six.
The Belgravia Edition Satin is the darker, more limited P400 special edition. It adds satin exterior film, a black exterior package, a black contrast roof, and numbered 1-of-400 cabin detailing to the regular Belgravia theme.
Among the newest regular trims, P400 Autobiography is the comfort-focused choice, with air suspension, extended leather, massaging front seats, reclining rear seats, and Meridian 3D audio. On slightly older refreshed models, P400 Dynamic HSE filled a similar role.
Land Rover has revised both styling labels and top-trim names over the Velar's life. Earlier lineups used names such as R-Dynamic, HSE, First Edition, and HST. Newer lineups use Dynamic SE, Belgravia Edition, and Autobiography, so the model year matters when comparing badges.
