Kia Sorento Hybrid

Kia takes its versatile three-row crossover SUV and adds a hybrid powertrain. The result is the Sorento Hybrid, a fuel-efficient people-mover without an eye-popping price tag. Like most other Kia products, it boasts an impressive list of standard features, including a suite of active safety tech and a snappy infotainment system. On the downside, some Sorento Hybrid owners complain of a lack of cargo space, somewhat lethargic performance, and a cramped third row. But in all, the Sorento Hybrid is an appealing mix of efficiency, utility, and comfort in a relatively compact and affordable package.

Kia Sorento Hybrid Model Lineup

The Sorento Hybrid is the hybrid variant of Kia’s midsize crossover SUV, the Sorento. With available seating for six across three rows, it is the largest hybrid vehicle built by the South Korean automaker, measuring nearly 18 inches longer than the subcompact Niro Plug-in Hybrid. A plug-in hybrid variant of the Sorento debuted for the 2022 model year and is reviewed separately.

Kia builds the Sorento Hybrid in two trims: the entry-level S and the more generously-equipped EX. Regardless of trim, Sorento Hybrid owners are treated to a strong list of standard features, including heated front seats and an infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. The latter received an increase from 8.0 to 10.3 inches for the 2022 model year. Also standard is a suite of safety tech, which offers a blind-spot warning system, rear parking sensors, lane-keeping assist, and forward collision mitigation. Some notable options include adaptive cruise control, front parking sensors, a panoramic sunroof, and a wireless device charger.

Under the hood, the Sorento Hybrid utilizes a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor. Their combined 227 horsepower is routed via a six-speed automatic transmission to the front wheels, unless the car is equipped with optional all-wheel drive, which Kia introduced in 2022. The EPA rates the Sorento Hybrid at 37 mpg in mixed driving.
