Genesis G80: Trims, Generations & Buyer's Guide
Last updated August 4, 2026

The Genesis G80 is a midsize luxury sedan known for quiet comfort, rich cabin materials, distinctive styling, and a broad set of safety features. It favors graceful cruising and premium craftsmanship over a hard-edged sport-sedan feel.
The G80 began wearing Genesis badges for 2017, but its core idea has remained consistent: deliver a polished luxury-sedan experience with generous standard safety technology and strong value. Later generations brought more dramatic styling, modern turbo engines, and increasingly sophisticated cabins without abandoning the model’s comfort-first character. Sport versions have added sharper looks and more focused hardware, but the G80 has remained more relaxed than aggressive.
Strengths
- The cabin is quiet, richly finished, and well suited to long highway drives.
- Its styling has more visual drama than many traditional luxury sedans without becoming overly flashy.
- A broad active-safety suite has been central to the G80 since it became a Genesis-branded model for 2017.
- The lineup balances the everyday-friendly 2.5-liter turbo engine with a stronger 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6.
- Recent models combine intuitive technology with the G80’s long-running emphasis on comfort and craftsmanship.
Who it's for
The G80 fits someone who wants a comfortable, upscale sedan for commuting, business travel, or long highway drives but does not need the size of a flagship model. It is especially appealing to shoppers who care more about a quiet cabin, distinctive design, and useful technology than having a traditional luxury badge or the sharpest possible handling.
Genesis G80 lineup
The 2.5T is the straightforward entry point, while the 2.5T Advanced suits buyers looking for added convenience. The 2.5T Sport Prestige puts more emphasis on an athletic appearance without moving to the larger engine. The 3.5T Sport Prestige pairs that sport-focused identity with the twin-turbo V6. Introduced for 2026, the 3.5T Prestige Black takes the V6 model in a darker, more luxury-focused visual direction.
Genesis G80 generations
From 2017 to 2026, the G80 spans two generations. The current 2nd Generation arrived for 2021, following the 1st G80-Badged Generation (2017–2020).
2nd Generation (2021–Present)
This is the second Genesis-branded G80 generation, or the third when the earlier Hyundai Genesis is counted. It moved to a new rear-wheel-drive platform with 2.5-liter and 3.5-liter turbo engines, a lighter body, and a more modern cabin.
