Ford Fusion

When it launched the Fusion Hybrid in 2010, Ford became one of the first to offer a mainstream hybrid sedan. Though the automaker canceled the model ten years later (as part of its shift in focus to SUVs and trucks), the Fusion Hybrid remains a compelling used car choice, offering excellent fuel economy, handsome styling, and a comfy cabin that, on higher trims, can be outfitted with a long list of luxury features. On the downside, some owners find the trunk a bit compromised since the hybrid’s battery pack takes up about a quarter of the usable space.

Ford Fusion Model Lineup

The Fusion Hybrid is a hybrid version of Ford’s popular midsize sedan, the Fusion, which offers room for up to five people. Launched in 2010, it was one of the longest-running hybrid sedans on the market until being discontinued by the automaker following the 2020 model year. Ford also produced a plug-in hybrid variant called the Fusion Energi (2013-2019), which is reviewed separately.

Ford sold the Fusion Hybrid in a variety of trims, including the base-level S, the mid-tier SE and SEL, and the fully loaded Titanium and Platinum. While automatic climate control and a split-folding rear seat are standard across the lineup, many other desirable features are limited to the SE and higher trims, including leather upholstery, heated front seats, and a sunroof. However, starting in 2019, Ford added a host of previously optional tech features to the standard-equipment list, including adaptive cruise control, blind-spot warning, lane-keeping assist, and an 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen with navigation and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration.

Since its 2013 redesign, the Fusion Hybrid has employed a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor. They combine to deliver up to 188 horsepower to the front wheels (only) via a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). The powertrain earns an EPA fuel economy rating of 42 mpg in mixed driving. Prior to 2013, the model utilized a similar setup but with a larger 2.5-liter four-cylinder, which offers 191 hp and an EPA-rated 39 mpg (combined).

The vehicle gets considerably less mileage than advertised and considerably less than the same identical car my son owns. He drove my car for a week and thru a tank of gas and he got the same low mileage result that I have. San Tan Ford worked on the problem and said their computers diagnostics shows nothing wrong. They refused to try a new Computer in the car since their test machines shows nothing wrong.

My family and I truly enjoy driving our Ford Fusion. And I pass my thoughts about my experiences with our new car along to many family and friends and just a few weeks ago our neighbor purchased one for their family to enjoy.

How come there are no HID or LED headlights and needs pure white LED bulbs everywhere in the cabin, it's hard to see with incandescent lamps.

I bought this car as a NOT day to day driver. When I drive it, the feel is outstanding, from comfort of the seating to the handling. I'd love to put a Mustang 5.0 engine in it, which I owned back in the 90s and LOVED IT! I think the only issue I have or am going to have with it will be something little like: Having to take the front Grille off to get at the headlights should one go out. How insane is that engineering? I have a friend that has a Cadillac and just found this problem out. She stated and I quote, "Had I known this about the car prior to purchasing it, I would have stayed with a foreign car!" After having foreign cars she decided to give American a try and this might have been a deal-breaker. Also, I wish there were some after-market product Ford offered, like: A blacked-out Grille. I have a pure black car with a Chrome Grille. If they offered the blacked-out Grille I'd purchase it.
