Chevrolet Tahoe LS, Z71, High Country & More

Commercial is the work- and fleet-focused Tahoe, while LS is the straightforward family-oriented retail trim. On the newest models, both share a 5.3-liter V8, large displays, surround-view cameras, and adaptive cruise control. Their main difference is intended use, not basic size or capability.

On newer Tahoes, LT adds the comfort features many families notice daily: leather-appointed seating, heated front bucket seats, wireless phone charging, and a programmable power liftgate. LS keeps the same full-size cabin but has a simpler equipment set.

Since 2021, Z71 has been the dedicated off-road Tahoe trim. It has standard four-wheel drive, low-range gearing for slow rough-terrain driving, hill-descent control, an underbody skid plate, recovery hooks, and a front end shaped for better obstacle clearance.

Z71 is the off-road choice, while RST is the street-styled choice. On newer Tahoes, Z71 adds four-wheel drive, low-range gearing, underbody protection, recovery hooks, and hill-descent control. RST emphasizes a body-color sport grille, trim-specific details, and perforated leather seating.

The regular RST is mainly a street-styled trim with a monochromatic grille, distinctive cabin details, and perforated leather seating. A separate RST Performance Edition appeared for 2023 with added power and sharper handling, so shoppers should not assume every RST has that hardware.

On newer Tahoes, both are comfort-focused and use an adaptive suspension. High Country goes further with real wood trim, a 15-inch display projected onto the windshield, and a camera-based rearview mirror. Premier instead centers on features such as its power-sliding console and Bose surround audio.

They fill the same upscale role in different eras. Chevrolet renamed LTZ to Premier for 2017. Equipment still varies by model year, but both names identify the comfort-focused upper trim below newer High Country models.

XFE marks an older Tahoe tuned with fuel economy as the priority, especially during highway driving. These versions retained the full-size body and three rows while using an efficiency-focused 5.3-liter V8, six-speed automatic, and related gearing setup.

The older LS XFE is the more basic efficiency-focused version. LT XFE adds a nicer cabin treatment with premium-cloth front bucket seats and fog lamps. Both use an economy-minded 5.3-liter V8, six-speed automatic, and 18-inch wheels.

LT is the family-comfort choice in newer lineups. It adds leather-appointed seating, heated front seats, wireless phone charging, and a programmable power liftgate without moving into the specialized off-road equipment of Z71 or the richer cabin hardware of Premier.

Z71 is the clear match among 2021-and-newer Tahoes. Its standard four-wheel drive, low-range gearing, hill-descent control, skid plate, recovery hooks, and higher-clearance front end provide functional off-road hardware rather than appearance changes alone.

On newer models, Premier adds adaptive suspension, ventilated front seats, heated second-row bucket seats, a power-sliding center console, upgraded lighting, and Bose 10-speaker surround audio. It is a substantial comfort and ride-quality step beyond LT.

In newer lineups, High Country stands out with real wood cabin trim, a 15-inch display projected onto the windshield, a camera-based rearview mirror, adaptive suspension, ventilated front seats, and heated seats in the first two rows.
