BMW X6 M

BMW invented the SUV “coupe” when its X6 model first appeared back in 2008. Two years later, they gave the model the full M treatment, swapping in bigger brakes, a sport-tuned suspension, and a rip-roaring turbo V8. Thus the X6 M was born. Owners love it not only for its impressive performance capabilities but also for its luxe cabin, which is comfy for front-seat passengers but, due to a sloping roofline, can feel a bit cramped for those in back. Cargo space is similarly compromised. But what the X6 M lacks in utility, it makes up for in driving fun.

BMW X6 M Model Lineup

The X6 M is a high-performance variant of BMW’s midsize fastback crossover, the X6. With room for up to five people, it’s the largest coupe-like SUV from the German automaker’s M performance division, measuring some eight inches longer than the compact X4 M. The X6 M shares a platform and some components with the X5 M, a more traditionally shaped midsize performance sport-ute.

For most of the X6 M’s production life, BMW has built it in a single well-equipped “base” trim. However, since 2020, it has also been offered in Competition guise (either as a trim or a package), which boosts its already strong performance capabilities. As a high-end model, the X6 M comes loaded with premium features, including an adaptive sport suspension, front and rear parking sensors, a panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery, heated front seats, and navigation. A suite of active safety tech, including blind-spot warning and forward collision mitigation, first became available in 2015 and then became standard in 2019. Apple CarPlay first appeared in 2018, with Android Auto following in 2021. Adaptive cruise control has been standard equipment since 2016. Notable options include ventilated and massaging front seats, a self-parking system, and a wireless phone charging pad.

Under the hood, the X6 M features a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine making between 555 and 617 horsepower, depending on the year and trim. Until 2015, it was mated to a six-speed automatic transmission; after that, BMW fitted an eight-speed unit. All-wheel drive is standard. No hybrid or electric variants have yet been released.

Don't get me wrong - I love my car. So all the "complaints" here are on a high level... - Why can the car not shut off when I press Start/Stop once? - The trunk is very high - The sport seats are great, but you cannot adjust the headrest, and it has a bump in the middle - The leather on the middle console has great stitching, but it's not comfy to rest your arm on it - This is my first BMW that has a holder for my glasses! It feels a bit cheap though - Moving the central lock key from the middle into the doors was not a good idea - The buttons for operating the power windows in the driver door are a bit too far away - Not sure why the keys need to get bigger and bigger, the car has no spot where to put it anyways.

Put a touch screen in the future BMW. The current iDrive is totally OUTDATED!! Simplify the UI design on the future iDrive. Instead all text interface, put some icons on the main screen. Icons somehow are more visible and focus than text when vehicle is moving. Fade the colors on the inactive icons and selections to make the active section stands out. Get rid of unnecessary background colors and lines between the selections. Using simple transition animation between the screen selections. Currently iDrive interface is way too ugly and outdated! (Again!) Reduce the buttons on Air Condition System. Please refer to current Acura TLX, just one option to turn on and off the AC system, instead of current BMW's system has 3 options. Also syncs the ac temperature with seat cooler and heater with one step, not two steps.
