BMW X4 M
The X4 M is full of contradictions. It isn’t a sports car, but it drives like one. It’s an SUV, but it doesn’t really look like one. So what exactly is it? In short, it’s a coupe-shaped version of BMW’s high-performance sport-ute, the X3 M. It trades some of that model’s overall utility for an eye-catching fastback look – without sacrificing any of its astonishing performance. Owners of the X4 M give it high marks for its powerful turbocharged inline-six, luxurious cabin, and surprisingly sharp handling. On the downside, some complain that its sport suspension delivers a punishing ride.

BMW X4 M Model Lineup
The X4 M is a high-performance version of BMW’s coupe-like compact luxury crossover SUV, the X4. The five-seater is the smaller of two fastback crossovers available from the automaker’s M division, measuring about eight inches shorter than the midsize X6 M. The X4 M shares a platform and many components with BMW’s more traditionally shaped performance SUV, the X3 M.
BMW offers the X4 M in two versions, the base and the Competition. Both employ a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine which routes power to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission. In the base model, the mill generates 473 horsepower, while in the more athletic Competition trim, it makes 503 ponies. The Competition also gets stiffer suspension components, a sport exhaust system, and more heavily bolstered front seats.
Standard equipment on the X4 M includes parking sensors, a power liftgate, an adaptive suspension, leather upholstery, three-zone automatic climate control, and a 10.3-inch center touchscreen with navigation and Apple CarPlay. The infotainment system gained Android Auto integration in 2021 and was upgraded to a 12.3-inch touchscreen in 2022. Standard safety tech includes forward collision mitigation, blind-spot warning, and lane-departure warning. Adaptive cruise control is part of the optional Driving Assistance Plus package. Other notable options include heated front and rear seats, a heated steering wheel, a wireless device charger, and a head-up display.

It is extremely fun to drive but is thirsty at the pump, so if you care about MPG this may not be the car for you.

Car has parts that are not securely fixed. They vibrate and have had to be repaired with fewer than 3000 miles. Car rattles and vibrates.

2020 BMW X4 M
Performance is fabulous. Handling is superb. The sound system is wonderful. The interior is comfortable and roomy but keeps one glued to the seat when in hard turns. The exterior design is innovative, sleek and aerodynamic. The BMW X4 M is Fun to Drive.

2020 BMW X4 M
Great value compared to super cars such as Lamborghini, Ferrari, etc. It is very high performance and very few cars can match its performance especially for an AWD crossover. I couldn't imagine buying this type of performance for the price even a decade ago. The entertainment, communication and vehicle screen controls could be more user friendly. Has some unique cool features. Very hard to put certain size cups in the cup holder. Could use specific spot to hold my sunglasses. Needs a spot to hold your cell phone so the screen is visible while driving. Don't expect to haul much but that's what my truck is for. Overall a very nice high quality niche car. Your not going to see too many on the road.

2020 BMW X4 M
Overall the vehicle looks and feels like a high performance sports car, with an emphasis on outstanding styling and lines. The transmission does not shift smoothly all the time. the overall driving experience is quite satisfactory, particular the power output. I find the lack of hand-grips above the doors on the inside is a huge oversight! Wind noise while driving is somewhat of an issue as well.
