Audi S6

The S6 takes Audi’s luxurious if somewhat bland midsizer, the A6, and spices it up with a more aggressive look and as much as 450 horsepower. Owners rate the athletic four-door highly for these qualities as well as its posh, high-tech interior and comfortable ride, which comes thanks to a standard adaptive air suspension. On the downside, the S6 gets some flack for its rather lofty price tag, high running costs, and sometimes fussy infotainment interface. Additionally, extroverts may find the S6’s slightly under-the-radar looks a bit too stealthy for their tastes.

Audi S6 Model Lineup

The S6 is a performance version of Audi’s midsize luxury sedan, the A6. With room for five, it slots between the compact S4 and the full-size S8 in the German automaker’s lineup of performance sedans.

Audi initially sold the S6 in a single “base” trim. But since its 2016 model refresh, the sports sedan has offered buyers the choice between the entry-level Premium Plus and the upscale Prestige trims. As you might expect from a luxury brand, all versions come equipped with a wide assortment of premium features, such as leather upholstery, heated front seats, a sunroof, parking sensors, and an adaptive air suspension. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration first appeared in 2017 as standard equipment. Audi added more tech goodies with the 2020 debut of the fifth-generation S6, including a wireless device charging pad, a surround-view camera, forward collision mitigation, and lane-departure warning. Some notable options include adaptive cruise control and ventilated front seats.

Under the hood, the fourth-generation S6 (2013-2018) features a 4.0-liter turbocharged V8 making between 420 and 450 horsepower, depending on the model year. It’s mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that routes power to all four wheels. With the 2020 appearance of the fifth-generation S6, Audi swapped in a slightly more fuel-efficient 2.9-liter turbo- and supercharged V6. It makes similar power (444 hp) and pairs with an eight-speed automatic. All-wheel drive is standard. No hybrid or electric versions of the S6 have been produced.
