Audi RS 5

Audi sent the already capable A5 coupe to its high-performance RS division for a tune-up. The result is the RS 5: a remarkable blend of athleticism and luxury in a sleek-looking shell. Think of it as an Olympian in a designer suit. Though some models from BMW’s M division and Mercedes-AMG can top the Audi for sheer performance, the RS 5 outshines most rivals when it comes to day-to-day livability, thanks to its relatively easy-going nature in normal driving. In fact, save for its expensive thirst for gas, you might even call it practical, especially in four-door Sportback guise.

Audi RS 5 Model Lineup

The RS 5 is a high-performance luxury car that seats up to five passengers. Like the A5 on which it’s based, the RS 5 is available in three different body styles: a traditional coupe, a four-door liftback (called Sportback), and a two-door convertible (called Cabriolet). Note that the Cabriolet was discontinued after the 2015 model year.

Audi offers the RS 5 in a single trim, which comes well-equipped with features, including leather upholstery and automatic climate control. Since 2018, all versions also get standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration and forward collision mitigation. Additional safety tech, including adaptive cruise control, is available but requires the Driver Assistance package.

The RS 5 utilizes one of two available engines. For 2015 and earlier examples, motivation comes from a 4.2-liter V8 making 450 horsepower and 316 pound-feet of torque. With the introduction of the second RS 5 generation in 2018, Audi updated the mill to a turbocharged V6 with 444 hp and 443 lb-ft. All-wheel drive is standard, as is an automatic transmission. No hybrid or electric variants have been offered.
