Audi Q3

The Q3 first appeared in 2015 as Audi’s feature-rich but otherwise lackluster entrant in the premium subcompact SUV segment. Four years later, the German automaker gave the model a much-needed overhaul, introducing sharper styling, more space, better performance, and improved tech. Since then, Audi’s littlest SUV has been a much more compelling option in its highly competitive class.

Audi Q3 Model Lineup

The Q3 is a subcompact crossover SUV that seats up to five passengers. It’s the smallest sport-ute offered by Audi, slotting in below the compact Q5. The Q3 shares a platform and some components with the Volkswagen Tiguan, made by Audi’s sister company.

Audi sells the Q3 in a variety of trims, including the base-level Premium, the mid-tier Premium Plus, and the top-of-the-line Prestige. Since 2019, all trims offer standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration as well as forward collision mitigation. To get adaptive cruise control (first available in 2019), buyers will have to opt for the Premium Plus or higher levels.

Motivating the Q3 is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Originally rated at 200 horsepower, it received a boost to 228 ponies in 2019. In 2022, Audi also added a 184-hp variant (designated “40”) with improved fuel economy; its EPA-estimated 26 mpg (combined) rating beats the more powerful “45” version by 2 mpg. All Q3s come standard with an automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. No hybrid or electric versions have yet been released.

My biggest disappointment is the engine, "pedal to the metal" performance is lacking and has me second guessing getting out into traffic or for that matter making a quick maneuver in and out of traffic. This vehicle needs more get up and go for me to buy another one... more engine for the buck. I have owned an AUDI A4, an ALFA ROMEO 164, an ALFA ROMEO SPIDER, a PORSCHE BOXER S and at present a BMW 330i, so as you can see I like the European performance in my vehicles. I understand this AUDI Q3 is a SUV/CROSSOVER, but in my opinion for what it's worth, this Q3 needs more power, like the 3.2 you install in the Q5.

Love my Q3 and so glad I got it - my suggestions for improvements: 1) my car did not come with power tailgate, I am 5'5" and I find it pretty difficult to reach the tailgate when it's up to pull it closed - I'm just too short. My previous car had a handle on the inside of the tailgate for this purpose. 2) Air conditioning gives me brain freeze even when I have the auto set to 75 degrees. 3) seat belts fall all the way down to the ground in the car and then the passenger seat belt bangs against the door while I'm driving. My previous car had loops on the belts that held the metal piece in place up about a foot from the ground. 4) the graphics on the interactive screen are pretty poorly done - I think Audi should invest in hiring someone who understands that graphic interfaces can be attractive AND functional, not just functional. It's a bit shocking that a company like Audi is so far behind in terms of graphic interfaces. But other than those small items, loving my car!

Controls are confusing. I've had the car for 3 months and I'm still confused at times. I previously owned two Acuras and the controls were more intuitive on the Acura.

I absolutely love my new car! It has everything I need as a college student that travels to and from home often but also every day to work which is close by. It is perfect storage and space for me and a few friends and I love how I feel driving the car around the city because I am able to fit into smaller spaces but still big enough to feel safe. The only drawbacks I have had are the closing of the trunk I am short and the way the handles are placed it is hard to close. Other than that I am in love.
