Audi A8

The A8, Audi’s flagship sedan, has long been a showcase of design, features, and technology. Owners praise the model for its high-quality and spacious interior, which includes one of the largest back seats available. They also love its quiet and comfortable ride – which, unlike some comparable luxury cars, doesn’t come at the expense of athleticism. The big Audi can hustle when you want it to. But a top-of-the-line autobahn cruiser like the A8 doesn’t come cheap – either to buy or to own. For those who can afford it, though, it’s one satisfying ride.

Audi A8 Model Lineup

The Audi A8 is a full-size luxury sedan that seats five. It’s the largest four-door in the German automaker’s lineup, measuring over a foot longer than the midsize A6. Audi originally sold the A8 in both standard- and extended-wheelbase versions. But in 2016, the longer A8 L, which adds about four inches of rear-seat legroom, became the sole option in the U.S. Audi also makes a high-performance version called the S8, which is reviewed separately.

Audi offers the A8 in a variety of trims, which are differentiated primarily by engine size. All versions come well-equipped, but those with more powerful engines (and correspondingly higher trim numbers) tend to have the most standard features. Note that Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration was first added in 2019, and adaptive cruise control has long been available but only as an option.

Under the hood, the A8 features a range of available engines. Most common is a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6, which makes about 335 horsepower. Originally designated the 3.0T, it was revised in 2019 to add 48-volt mild hybrid assist and has been known since as the 55 TFSI. A sportier turbo V8 making well over 400 hp was also available through 2021 and can be identified by either 4.0T or 60 TFSI badging, depending on the year. Other A8 powertrains include a 500-hp twelve-cylinder (W12), a turbodiesel V6 (3.0 TDI), and a plug-in hybrid (60 TFSI e).

Cup holder radius needs to be larger - brake assist would be helpful in reverse - side mirrors should reflect a greater view - getting out could be easier, perhaps make the seat adjust upon opening the door. - Best car I ever owned and drove. Better than MB 550 - Good Job!

2015 Audi A8 L 4.0T Sedan Quattro

First vehicle I ever purchased without test driving (Had a 2013 A8L before this one). Do not like the panoramic sunroof at all. In fact I hate it. Much prefer traditional sunroof\Need additional USB connection to Media and the ability to upload music via USB rather than SD card. Having a little trouble keeping outside passenger mirror properly adjusted for back up / normal driving

1. Engine shut down is confusing, illogical. 2. Cruise control lever placement is dangerous; violates basic rules of human engineering/safety. 3. Lane holding functions intermittently. Manufacturer unwilling to replace electronics to fix it. 3. Auto light control intermittently reports malfunction. Manufacturer refuses to replace electronics to fix it. 4. GPS map database is out of date by many years. Manufacturer seems unable to update. 5. Destination upload feature works only occasionally. 6. Data link feature subscription is unclear and AUDI website is completely unclear.

Gas Mileage advertised is 19 and the best I can get is 10-12 after 8 tankfulls. This is a very serious problem that has not been fixed.

the only thing missing is easy exit from the driver's seat, it should have a button to move the seat back and make it easier to exit, this is essential for short women

Improved technology was a big reason for the purchase but I found the difficulty of learning how to use it troubling. Better for more of the features to be automatic.

Trunk too small, volume reduction on radio when in reverse is annoying, phony spare is unacceptable on a luxury vehicle.

2015 Audi A8 L 3.0T Sedan Quattro

The A8L is a big, comfortable car. It also goes fast and handles very well. It's great fun to drive especially in the dynamic mode using the paddle shifters. Plenty of room for two couples to go to the movies and not be in each other's lap on the way!
