About the 2026 Mitsubishi Outlander

4th-generation Outlander, introduced for the 2022 model year. The 2026 gas model is the first year with the turbo mild-hybrid powertrain and follows the 2025 styling and chassis update. The current-generation PHEV, introduced for 2023, receives its mid-cycle update for 2026.

The 2026 Outlander is a compact family SUV with standard seating for seven and a folding third row for occasional passengers or extra cargo space. Mitsubishi differentiates it with electrified powertrains, a large standard touchscreen, Yamaha audio and a broad set of driver-assistance features. Gas models emphasize everyday efficiency and manageable size, while the PHEV adds meaningful electric driving range. S-AWC-equipped versions add Mitsubishi's integrated all-wheel-drive control for poor-weather confidence.

The 2026 range spans the entry-level ES, technology-focused SE and comfort-focused SEL in both mild-hybrid and plug-in-hybrid forms. Every version has seven seats, a 12.3-inch navigation touchscreen and Yamaha audio, while the returning RALLIART adds sporty body trim and standard all-wheel drive and the Black Edition tops the gas range with ventilated front seats, a head-up display and a 360-degree camera.

Frequently asked questions

What is the biggest difference between the 2026 and 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander?

The biggest difference is the move to electrified power across the 2026 lineup. Gas Outlanders replace the previous 2.5-liter engine with a 1.5-liter turbo mild hybrid, and the plug-in hybrid gets a larger battery, more power and a wider-ranging refresh.

Is the 2026 Mitsubishi Outlander gas model a hybrid?

Yes. Every 2026 gas Outlander uses a 174-hp 1.5-liter turbo engine with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. It does not plug in; the separate Outlander PHEV is the plug-in model.

How far can the 2026 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV travel on electricity?

The 2026 Outlander PHEV has an EPA-rated electric range of 45 miles. Its updated plug-in-hybrid system uses a 22.7-kWh battery and produces 297 hp.

Which Mitsubishi Outlander trims changed for 2026?

The gas lineup gains LE and brings back RALLIART for 2026. SEL Black Edition is renamed Black Edition, while Platinum Edition and SEL Platinum Edition leave the lineup.

Is the 2026 Mitsubishi Outlander worth considering over the 2025 model?

The 2026 is the more meaningful choice for shoppers who want the new mild-hybrid gas powertrain or the plug-in hybrid’s longer 45-mile electric range. The 2025 gas model already has the newer styling and chassis tuning, but it uses the older 2.5-liter engine.
