About the 2026 Mazda CX-50

1st generation (2023-present), fourth model year, pre-refresh packaging update year

Mazda positions the CX-50 as the more adventure-ready companion to the CX-5: a compact SUV with standard AWD, a long and flat cargo area, useful towing ability, and more confidence on rough roads, but with the brand’s usual emphasis on responsive steering and a premium-feeling cabin. In this lineup, the CX-50’s core appeal is that it blends outdoor practicality and road-trip usefulness with a more polished driving feel than many mainstream compact SUVs.

Mazda positions the 2026 CX-50 as a broad lineup of regular gas models, outdoorsy Meridian editions, stronger turbo models, and efficiency-focused hybrids. The new 2.5 S Meridian pairs its black 18-inch wheels and 8.6-inch ground clearance with heated front seats and a power liftgate. At the upper end, the Turbo Premium Plus has a 360-degree camera, while the hybrids use electronic AWD with Power and Trail driving modes.

What changed, by category

Powertrain
The engine choices carry over, but their trim pairings change. The Meridian Edition is now paired with the non-turbo 2.5-liter engine in the new 2.5 S Meridian Edition. The former 2.5 Turbo Premium continues under the shorter 2.5 Turbo name, and the 2.5 S Premium Plus is dropped.
Styling
The new 2.5 S Meridian Edition brings 18-inch black wheels, black roof rails, black exterior badges, and an off-road-oriented stance to the non-turbo lineup. Select models also receive black badging, and some upper trims were offered with a new white interior.
Tech
The 2.5 S Premium gains several cabin upgrades previously found higher in the gas lineup, including ventilated front seats, a six-way power front passenger seat, and two-position driver-seat memory. It also gains leather-trimmed seating.
