About the 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee

5th generation (WL), mid-cycle refresh year.

Jeep positions the Grand Cherokee as a family SUV that blends everyday comfort with genuine Jeep capability. It is meant to cover a lot of ground: commuting, family hauling, towing, road trips and rough-weather travel, with either a 2-row body or the longer Grand Cherokee L. Versus many midsize SUVs, Jeep leans hard on its stronger towing, available off-road hardware, upscale cabin feel and broad tech roster, while still presenting it as a comfortable daily driver.

The 2026 lineup runs from the straightforward V6-powered Laredo to the comfort-focused Limited and luxury-minded Summit, both powered by the new turbo engine. Laredo Altitude adds black wheels and sportier trim, while Summit brings premium leather, ventilated front seats and a 19-speaker McIntosh audio system. The new 85th Anniversary Edition is a three-row Grand Cherokee L with standard four-wheel drive, heated front seats and a sunroof.

What changed, by category

Powertrain
Most trims switch from the 3.6-liter V6 to a new 2.0-liter Hurricane 4 turbo engine producing 324 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque. Laredo and Laredo X keep the V6, and the Summit plug-in hybrid is dropped.
Styling
The front end is refreshed with a new grille, revised bumper treatment and redesigned LED headlamps. Wheel designs also change across the lineup.
Tech
A 12.3-inch touchscreen replaces the smaller previous setup, and a 10.25-inch digital gauge display joins the cabin.

Which 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee trims keep the V6?

The 2026 Laredo and Laredo X keep the 3.6-liter V6. Limited, Limited Reserve, Laredo Altitude and Summit use the new 2.0-liter turbo engine.

What happened to the Altitude trims for 2026?

The former Altitude is renamed Laredo Altitude for 2026, while Altitude X is dropped. Laredo Altitude is the blacked-out, sport-styled version with 18-inch gloss-black wheels and the new turbo engine.

Does the 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit still have a plug-in hybrid powertrain?

No. The plug-in hybrid powertrain is dropped from the Summit for 2026. The refreshed Summit uses the new 2.0-liter turbo gas engine.

What new trims join the 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee lineup?
