About the 2025 Rivian R1T

2nd generation update, first year of the heavily reworked Gen 2 R1T introduced for the 2025 model year.

Rivian positions the R1T as an electric pickup for people who want one vehicle to handle commuting, road trips, gear hauling and real off-road travel. Its core appeal is the mix of quick EV performance, useful truck capability, clever built-in storage, adjustable air suspension and a software-heavy cabin. Compared with other electric pickups, Rivian leans harder into adventure use and everyday livability rather than just straight-line speed or work-truck simplicity.

The 2025 lineup runs from the everyday-focused Dual Standard to the range-focused Dual Max, which reaches up to 420 miles of EPA-estimated range. The 850-hp Tri Max adds a more upscale cabin and nine drive modes, while the 1,025-hp Quad emphasizes maximum performance and individual control of each wheel. The limited California Dune Edition gives the Tri-Motor truck a desert-themed interior and extra underbody protection.

What changed, by category

Powertrain
Every R1T moves to Rivian-developed drive units. The Standard battery switches to lithium iron phosphate chemistry, the Large and Max batteries are redesigned, and the second-generation Quad produces 1,025 hp. The lineup also gains the limited, tri-motor California Dune Edition.
Structural
A simpler second-generation electrical architecture reduces the number of computer modules and the amount of wiring. Rivian also revises the suspension tuning across the lineup.
Safety
Rivian’s new driver-assistance hardware becomes standard, using 11 cameras and five radars to support features such as Highway Assist and a 360-degree camera view.
Tech
Cabin software and the screen interface are updated across the R1T.
Styling
The new California Dune Edition adds an exclusive Sandstone and Black Mountain interior with easy-clean flooring. Quad models gain dark exterior trim as standard equipment.

How the 2026 Rivian R1T compares

The biggest change for the 2026 Rivian R1T is a native NACS charging port on every trim, giving the truck built-in compatibility with Tesla-style charging hardware. This is a focused update rather than another redesign, with the 1,025-hp Quad returning at the top of the revised lineup.
