About the 2025 GMC Terrain

3rd generation, first year (all-new for 2025)

GMC positions the Terrain as its gateway compact SUV: a small two-row model that brings the brand’s truck-inspired styling, big-screen cabin, and higher-end look to buyers who do not need a larger SUV. Its core appeal is simple daily usability with a more upscale feel than a basic compact crossover, backed by strong standard safety content, easy-to-live-with technology, and a compact footprint that still gives useful cargo flexibility.

For 2025, GMC positions the Terrain Elevation as a well-equipped entry point rather than a basic trim. It pairs a 1.5-liter turbo engine with a standard 15-inch touchscreen and 11-inch driver display, plus heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, adaptive cruise control, and remote start.

What changed, by category

Powertrain
The 1.5-liter turbo four-cylinder engine carries over, but front-wheel-drive models switch to a CVT. All-wheel-drive versions use an 8-speed automatic transmission.
Styling
The exterior adopts a boxier, more truck-inspired design, while the cabin is fully redesigned.
Safety
The standard safety suite expands to more than 15 features. Additions include enhanced and intersection automatic emergency braking, rear cross-traffic and reverse automatic braking, side bicyclist alert, and steering assistance for blind-zone hazards.
Tech and comfort
A 15-inch touchscreen and 11-inch digital driver display become standard. Heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, remote start, and adaptive cruise control are also standard.
Structural
The Terrain enters its third generation and launches only in the new Elevation trim for 2025. The previous SLE, SLT, AT4, and Denali trims do not continue for this model year; AT4 and Denali return for 2026.
