2025 BMW iX: What's New, Specs & Features

Last updated August 4, 2026

2025 BMW iX

The most important change for the 2025 BMW iX is a small update to the optional hands-free highway lane-change function. Otherwise, this is a quiet carryover year, with the same two trims, dual-motor AWD powertrains, cabin, and design as 2024.

About the 2025 BMW iX

1st-generation BMW iX, final pre-facelift year before the 2026 refresh and renamed trim lineup.

BMW positions the iX as a futuristic luxury electric SUV that combines strong straight-line performance with a quiet, lounge-like cabin and midsize-SUV practicality. The big draw is not rugged capability or third-row seating; it is the mix of long-range EV usability, quick acceleration, a spacious five-seat interior, and a very tech-heavy dashboard experience. Compared with many rivals, the iX leans more toward comfort, design, and road-trip calm than hard-edged sport or utility-first packaging.

The xDrive50 is the comfort-focused version, pairing a 516-hp dual-motor AWD system with a large curved display, panoramic glass roof, and a broad safety suite. The M60 is the performance model, with 610 horsepower, rear-wheel steering, air suspension, stronger brakes, and a Bowers & Wilkins sound system.

“The driver's seat belt is HORRIBLE for a woman 5'5" with long legs because the shoulder harness is not adjustable and rides up, cutting into my neck after a few minutes of driving. It is the worst feature of any car I've owned and there is apparently no fix for it. Also, there is a ton of road noise.”

“The front end/kidney grill is a bit polarizing. At first, I didn't care for it. However, the more I drive it, the more I love it. Aside from having too many apps in the iDrive system, you will love the interior. It is incredibly comfortable and (like most BMWs) it is very fun to drive.”

“Great choice - but expensive and charging stations are an issue until access to Tesla Superchargers.”
